Price difference in India
There is no dependable single price difference to quote without matching the storage configuration, seller, stock and date. 91mobiles’ 2026 snapshot showed Amazon-linked listings at ₹17,835 for the Moto G86 Power and ₹22,476 for the Galaxy A17 5G. Those are seller-linked snapshots, not guaranteed current prices or a matched-storage comparison. Motorola’s India shop search result showed ₹16,999 for the G86 Power, but that result was crawled seven months before the snapshot date. Samsung’s official page for the 8 GB / 256 GB model currently marks it “Not for sale.”

Which phone has the better battery?
The Moto G86 Power has the larger listed battery: 6,720 mAh versus Samsung’s 5,000 mAh typical capacity, and its listed charging rate is 33 W versus 25 W. Those figures make the Moto the stronger on-paper choice for capacity and charging rate, but they do not establish how long either phone lasts in everyday use. Screen settings, network conditions, apps and workload all affect runtime; battery capacity alone is not a battery-life test.

The Moto’s comparison-listed panel has a higher 2712 × 1220 resolution and 120 Hz refresh rate; Samsung identifies the A17’s display as Super AMOLED, with 1080 × 2340 resolution and a 90 Hz rate. On those listed specifications, the Moto offers more pixels and a faster refresh rate, while Samsung’s official page confirms its panel type. These figures do not by themselves establish which screen looks better in person.

The Moto’s listed rear setup is a 50 MP main camera and an 8 MP ultra-wide. Samsung lists a 50 MP main, 5 MP ultra-wide and 2 MP macro camera, giving it a third rear lens. The listed front-camera resolutions are 32 MP for Moto and 13 MP for Samsung. These are hardware descriptions, not evidence that one phone takes better photos: megapixel counts and lens counts do not replace standardized image testing.

Updates and durability
Software support
Samsung advertises six OS upgrades and six years of security support for the Galaxy A17 5G, with its product information specifying security updates through 31 August 2031. Motorola’s official support page covers the non-Power Moto G86 and does not establish an equivalent exact support policy for the G86 Power. If long-term updates are important, confirm Motorola’s India policy for the exact Power variant rather than assuming that the non-Power G86 support page applies.
Ingress protection
Gadgets 360 lists IP69 for the Moto G86 Power, while Samsung’s official Galaxy A17 page lists IP54. These ratings indicate different levels of protection against water and dust ingress; neither means a phone is indestructible or guarantees protection in every accident. Review the manufacturers’ warranty terms before treating either rating as cover for liquid damage.
Which should you buy?
Choose the Moto G86 Power if
- You prioritize the larger listed battery and faster listed charging rate.
- You want the higher listed display resolution and 120 Hz refresh rate.
- The G86 Power’s listed configuration and live price suit your budget.
Choose the Galaxy A17 5G if
- You value Samsung’s stated six OS upgrades and six years of security support.
- You want a third rear-camera lens, including a listed macro camera.
- You have checked the exact RAM and storage version and found it at a suitable live price.
Before deciding, verify the regional model, storage, seller, stock and current total price. The most important distinction is not a universal winner: the Moto leads on several published hardware numbers, while Samsung offers the clearer documented update commitment.
