Start by checking which apps are using power, then change only the settings that match your needs. Motorola’s battery instructions are for the 2026 moto g stylus, while the privacy paths below come from the 2025 Moto G Stylus guide. Menu names and availability can differ on other generations and Android versions.
Find what is draining the battery first
On the 2026 moto g stylus, open Settings > Battery > Battery usage and review the apps and features consuming power since the last full charge. The support page says the list can cover the last 24 hours or 14 days. Use it to identify unusually heavy use rather than restricting every app; those time ranges and labels may differ on other models.
If one app stands out, consider whether it needs to run when you are not using it before changing its background access.

Make everyday battery changes
Motorola recommends several practical adjustments for the 2026 moto g stylus. Their effect depends on how you use the phone; the guidance does not promise a specific percentage or number of extra hours.

- Lower screen brightness and shorten the screen timeout so the display turns off sooner.
- Use Dark theme, especially if you prefer it for everyday viewing.
- Turn off Bluetooth and GPS/location when you do not need them. If you need location-based features, leave location available and manage individual apps’ access instead.
- Use Wi-Fi where coverage is available, as Motorola advises.
- Avoid power-intensive activities when battery is low: video recording or playback, music, photography, and live animated wallpaper.
- Turn off automatic account sync only if you accept the tradeoff. Without it, automatic updates and notifications may be missed.

Choose which apps can run in the background
On the 2026 model, Motorola recommends keeping Settings > Battery > Manage background apps enabled and leaving uncertain or non-time-sensitive apps on Smart use. The available labels may differ by generation.
Use the categories according to how quickly each app needs to respond:

- Always allow: Reserve this for apps where delayed activity could cause a problem, such as messaging or calling, important email, health or safety apps, navigation, and system-critical apps.
- Smart use: A reasonable choice when you are unsure or an app does not need immediate background activity.
- Don’t allow: Consider this for low-priority apps that do not need to run in the background. Notifications, updates, and new content may not arrive until you open the app.
Keep Adaptive Battery enabled so infrequently used apps can run less when you are not using them. Before restricting an app, weigh reduced background activity against timely messages, refreshed content, and updates.

Review recent access to private information
The 2025 Moto G Stylus guide documents Settings > Security & privacy > Privacy > Privacy dashboard. The dashboard shows a timeline of recent Location, Camera, and Microphone access. Select a permission to review its controls.

To change access for a particular app, open Settings > Security & privacy > Privacy > Permission manager, choose a permission, then select the app. You can also start with an app and review its permissions. Turning a permission off can prevent features from working correctly, so check what the app uses it for before denying access.

Block camera or microphone access
For a quick, phone-wide block on the 2025 Moto G Stylus, go to Settings > Security & privacy > Privacy controls and switch off Camera access or Microphone access. This is different from changing one app’s permission: a global switch blocks access across apps until you turn it back on.

If only one app should lose access, use Permission manager instead. The phone’s privacy indicator can help identify an app using the camera or microphone; the 2025 guide describes using it to check and change that app’s access. Note that Motorola’s guide says microphone data may still be shared when calling an emergency number even if microphone access is off.

Limit location access without breaking useful features
On the 2025 Moto G Stylus, open Settings > Security & privacy > Privacy controls > Location access to review recent access and change location permission for individual apps.

Choose the least access that still supports the feature you want. Depending on the app and available options, you can allow location only while using it, have the app ask each time, or deny access. For apps that need a general area but not an exact position, turn off Use precise location to share approximate location instead. Navigation and other features that depend on pinpoint accuracy may not work as expected with approximate location or denied access.
