Strategy reported buying 334 bitcoin for $28.7 million from October 1 through October 4, 2026, bringing its reported holdings to 848,000 BTC as of 4 p.m. Eastern Time on October 4. The company said the purchases averaged $85,838.8 per bitcoin, including fees and expenses.
What Strategy disclosed
In a Form 8-K filed October 5, 2026, Strategy Inc. reported that it acquired 334 bitcoin during the four-day period from October 1 through October 4. The purchase price was $28.7 million in total, or an average of $85,838.8 per bitcoin. Strategy’s filing says its purchase prices include fees and expenses.
The filing reported that Strategy held 848,000 BTC as of October 4 at 4 p.m. Eastern Time. The company put the aggregate purchase price of those holdings at $63.97 billion, with an average acquisition cost of $75,440.7 per bitcoin. These are reported acquisition-cost figures, not a current market valuation. Strategy’s October 5 Form 8-K is the primary source for the transaction and holdings figures.
How Strategy funded the purchase
Strategy said $15.7 million of the purchase came from net proceeds of sales of its Class A common stock, traded under the ticker MSTR, and $13.0 million came from USD Cash.

The filing distinguishes USD Cash from the company’s USD Reserve. Strategy says the USD Reserve is intended to support preferred-stock dividends and debt interest, while USD Cash is designated for broader bitcoin treasury purposes, which may include bitcoin purchases and capital management. The filing’s funding breakdown identifies USD Cash—not the USD Reserve—as a source for this purchase.
How holdings changed since September 30
Strategy reported holding 847,666 BTC as of September 30, with a $63.95 billion aggregate purchase price and an average cost of $75,436.6 per bitcoin. Compared with that report, the October 4 figures show 334 additional bitcoin and a higher aggregate acquisition cost. The average reported cost per bitcoin also rose slightly, from $75,436.6 to $75,440.7.

The separate Q3 gain estimate
The same filing included separate, preliminary financial information for the quarter ended September 30, 2026: Strategy estimated a $20.91 billion gain on digital assets and $1.88 billion in associated deferred tax expense. The company said the bitcoin holdings’ fair value exceeded their cost basis at quarter-end, prompting the reversal of a previously recorded deferred tax asset and release of its valuation allowance.

Strategy said these figures were prepared by management and had not been audited or reviewed by KPMG. The estimated gain is an accounting figure, not evidence of an equivalent realized cash profit, and it is separate from the 334-BTC purchase.

The Block reported that Michael Saylor, Strategy’s co-founder and executive chairman, posted an acquisition-tracker chart to X with the caption “More orange than ever.” The caption refers to the reported social-media post; the transaction and holdings figures come from the company filing.
