Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault is a shopkeeping action RPG that reached Version 1.0 on September 2, 2026, on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2. A standard boxed edition and a Collector’s Edition are announced for November 13, 2026. The only packaged release with a confirmed region and date is a Japanese PS5 and Nintendo Switch 2 edition, due December 10, 2026. This guide is based on the developer’s and publisher’s announcements and the Steam store page, not on hands-on play, and it reflects their status as of early October 2026.

What Moonlighter 2 is

The game puts you in the role of Will, a returning “hero merchant” in the sequel to Moonlighter. Will and his companions are stranded in the mysterious dimension of Tresna, and the village there is the base you rebuild. The official descriptions from Digital Sun and publisher 11 bit studios characterize the game as a blend of dungeon exploration, action RPG combat, and shopkeeping. Those two halves are linked by a repeating loop:

  1. Enter a vault. Each vault is a dangerous space you explore to collect items.
  2. Fight for the haul. Combat uses both melee and ranged weapons, so the route you take through a vault affects what you bring back.
  3. Decide what to do with each item. Recovered goods are not automatically money; you handle them through the shop.
  4. Price and sell in the shop. Your display choices, selling skills, and special events all affect what customers buy, according to Sega’s Japanese product description.
  5. Spend the proceeds on the village. Sales income feeds development of Tresna, which in turn supports the next trip into a vault.

Digital Sun’s CEO Javier Gimenez framed the sequel as the studio’s next step after the original, saying in the developer’s announcement: “The original Moonlighter was a pivotal moment for us, marking the growth of Digital Sun as a team. Five years on, Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault showcases everything we’ve learned along the way. We’re channeling all our craftsmanship into creating a game that’s not just better, but brimming with even more charm in every detail.” That is a promotional statement from the studio, not an independent assessment of the game.
