Do I need Monster Hunter Rise to play Sunbreak?
Yes. Capcom’s North America Steam listing states: “You must own Monster Hunter Rise in order to play this expansion.” Sunbreak is an expansion, not a standalone copy of the base game. If you already own Rise on the platform and account you intend to use, compare the expansion-only options rather than buying a bundle that includes Rise again.

Does Sunbreak include the base game?
No. The Sunbreak Deluxe Edition listing includes the expansion and Sunbreak Deluxe Kit; it does not list the base game. By contrast, the Rise + Sunbreak Deluxe Steam bundle lists four items: Monster Hunter Rise, the Rise Deluxe Kit, Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak, and the Sunbreak Deluxe Kit. Confirm the contents of the exact edition in your own storefront before checkout.
What is in the Sunbreak Deluxe Edition?
On the reviewed North America Steam listing, Sunbreak Deluxe includes the Sunbreak expansion and its Deluxe Kit. The product page describes Sunbreak as adding new monsters, new locales, and new abilities for all 14 weapon types. The Rise + Sunbreak Deluxe bundle includes an additional Rise Deluxe Kit alongside the Sunbreak Deluxe Kit. Kit contents can be platform- or listing-specific, so use the itemized contents shown for your exact product rather than assuming every Deluxe label means the same extras.

When does Sunbreak content become accessible?
Buying the expansion does not make its content available immediately to a new save. Capcom’s product listing says access follows completion of the 7-star Hub quest “Serpent Goddess of Thunder.” This is a progression requirement, not a condition you must meet before purchasing Sunbreak. Capcom’s Japan-region Steam listing also identifies the same quest milestone.
How should I check a platform or region listing?
The official pages reviewed here are digital Steam listings. Capcom’s PlayStation 4 manual explains that some add-on content is free while other add-ons are purchased through PlayStation Store; it does not establish that a particular Steam bundle’s terms apply to PlayStation. Before buying, verify these details in the store for your platform:
