Mononoke No Kuni is an upcoming action-adventure from Lights-Interactive, published by Happinet, with a release currently planned for 2027 on Steam. Its advertised combat combines chained attacks, dodges, guards, and parries with encounters framed as purifying sorrowful yokai. Those are the developers’ and publisher’s descriptions, not features independently verified in a released game.
What is Mononoke No Kuni about?
The story follows Taiki, a lonely boy whose puppy Musashi dies. At a shrine, Taiki prays and sees Musashi revived as an “Inubashira,” which the official site describes as a divine canine. Steam describes Musashi as a Shiba Inu and says Taiki sets out to recover his companion’s stolen soul.
The journey takes the pair into an otherworld inhabited by mononoke and yokai. The game’s official presentation ties its adventure to helping villagers and restoring their settlements, as well as confronting the beings who stand in Taiki and Musashi’s way. How is the combat supposed to work?
Steam describes the battles as a purification action system. Its listing says players can chain charge attacks, dodges, guards, and parries, suggesting encounters reward timing and responding to enemy attacks rather than relying only on repeated strikes. The store page also says the game has no stamina gauge and offers a casual mode. These are currently advertised features; the final game’s implementation and balance remain to be seen.

The premise gives the boss-fight pitch an emotional angle: Steam says yokai have sorrowful stories and describes them as more than ordinary enemies. Taiki can use an ōnusa to soothe souls and return them to Yomi. That framing suggests purification is meant to connect combat with the story, but it does not establish how individual boss encounters play or whether every boss has a distinct narrative. When is it coming out, and what platforms are confirmed?
Both the official site and Steam currently give 2027 as the planned release year. Steam says the game is not yet available, and neither listing provides a specific launch day. No confirmed price is available in the official sources cited here. Happinet lists the MSRP as coming soon, and the sources do not establish multiple editions or a physical release. Steam’s page currently marks the game as not yet available, so prospective buyers should wait for the store listing to publish final price and purchase details.
