Beni is a small, self-righting camera robot that can follow a person on the ground, be steered from an app or motion tracker, and record hands-free video. Its unusual viewpoint and playful character make it more interesting than a static phone mount, but the case for buying one depends on accepting its ground-level framing, weather and surface limits, and a price that was still tied to a crowdfunding campaign in Mondo’s latest listed status.
What Beni is—and what it is not
Mondo Robotics’ Beni combines a camera, two wheels, subject-following features, manual controls, and playful robot behaviors in a self-righting body. Think of it as a mobile ground camera, not a flying drone: it can move around a subject, but it cannot provide aerial views. TechRadar reviewer Lance Ulanoff reported that Beni could right itself after being knocked over and that flips and jumps were triggered through the app or wearable remote. He described the sounds and animations as canned rather than learned behavior. TechRadar’s September 24, 2026 hands-on review is an individual review, not a controlled test.
Tom’s Guide reviewer Paul Antill reported using Beni while riding an e-bike and exploring abandoned structures, including crashing it; in his account, it kept pace during the ride. He found it complemented his camera kit rather than replacing his drone or other cameras. His experience is useful context, but it does not establish how Beni will perform on every route, surface, or subject. Tom’s Guide published its hands-on review July 20, 2026.
How does Beni follow me?
Mondo says Beni’s core follow, film, and play features work on the robot itself without an internet connection. Its product page describes following and app-based control; Antill reported modes for following from behind or alongside, orbiting, and holding a fixed point. The exact behavior you get depends on the mode and situation, so a ground robot is not a substitute for a camera operator who can choose framing moment by moment.

The ground-level perspective is the defining trade-off. It can add moving shots that a stationary tripod cannot capture, while staying on the ground where a drone may be unsuitable. But it will not produce an aerial shot, and the low, upward-facing camera can feel intrusive to people nearby. Ulanoff specifically noted that potential privacy discomfort in his review.

There is a specification discrepancy worth checking before purchase: TechRadar’s September 24, 2026 review reports 4K/60fps and 1080p/120fps, which conflicts with the official modes above. Those figures should not be treated as interchangeable or combined; verify the modes for the unit and firmware being offered. Mondo says two battery swaps can extend use beyond 4.5 hours, but that involves carrying and changing batteries. It is not a claim of more than 4.5 hours from one uninterrupted battery run.

Confirm compatibility before buying a card. Mondo’s support FAQ also describes an action-camera mount for accessories weighing less than 200g and warns that taller accessories may affect video quality; it does not establish a particular camera compatibility or mount standard. Is Beni waterproof?
No. Mondo says Beni is not waterproof and advises avoiding rain and roads covered in water. Its support FAQ also distinguishes wheel choices by surface: standard wheels are recommended for flat surfaces such as carpet, wood, tile, and concrete, while off-road wheels are recommended for grass. “Off-road” or “all-terrain” language should not be read as a promise of waterproofing or reliable travel on every rough surface.
Does Beni need internet, and what about privacy?
Mondo says the core follow, film, and play features operate on-device without internet, and footage stays on internal storage or the user’s microSD card. The company describes optional AI editing as the feature that goes online, with permission. These are Mondo’s stated processing and storage practices, not an independent security audit. The Apple App Store listing marks developer privacy information as unverified by Apple; the Google Play listing includes developer-provided data safety statements. On-device processing does not settle the separate question of how people around you feel about being filmed. Because the camera sits low and points upward, tell nearby people when you are recording and be mindful of where footage may capture bystanders.

Price, availability, and warranty
Mondo’s microsite lists Beni as live on Kickstarter and shows a 31% off “Super Early Bird” standard combo, but the captured page does not give a dollar amount for that offer. Tom’s Guide reported an approximately $549 early Kickstarter price and a planned $799 retail price on July 20, 2026. TechRadar reported a $799 price and expected October 2026 delivery on September 24, 2026. These are dated reports, not confirmation of the current checkout price, retail stock, or shipment status. Check Mondo’s Beni microsite for current campaign and warranty information before ordering; the available information here does not establish current Amazon stock.

Who should consider Beni?
- Consider it if you want a moving ground-level camera that can follow you and you value playful behaviors as part of the experience.
- Look elsewhere or wait if you need aerial footage, dependable use in rain or on wet roads, or confirmed camera modes and delivery terms before paying.
- Compare the complete setup with a tripod, phone mount, or action camera: those options may be simpler for fixed or wearable shots, while Beni’s distinction is tracking while moving on the ground.
Beni has a distinctive idea and reviewer accounts suggest it can be entertaining and useful in the right setting. Its strongest argument is mobile ground-level filming—not replacing a drone or a full camera kit. Whether that is worth the cost depends on the live offer, confirmed delivery details, and how well its constraints fit your use.
