Molex Percept is a family of high-current busbar sensors for automotive and industrial power systems. It combines Infineon coreless differential Hall-effect sensing with Molex electronics packaging, and is specified for bidirectional currents from ±450 A to ±1,600 A. Molex says accuracy is ±2% across the operating temperature range and product lifetime; that is a vendor specification, not an independently verified test result.

What is a Molex Percept Current Sensor?

Percept is designed to measure current in high-power conductors such as busbars, rather than serve as a general-purpose sensor module for consumer electronics. Its sensing element uses Infineon coreless differential Hall technology, while Molex supplies the electronics packaging and busbar integration.

The family includes a vertically inserted sensor-in-busbar configuration and an optional sensor-only package. Integrating the sensor with the conductor can reduce the separate mechanical and electrical work required to install a sensing component in a power system.

Published specifications

Molex’s published figures describe a bidirectional sensor intended for high-current applications. Use the exact variant’s datasheet and system requirements when selecting a part; the family-level figures alone do not establish suitability for every installation.

What the accuracy and packaging claims mean

Accuracy over temperature and lifetime

Molex states ±2% accuracy over the full operating temperature range and product lifetime. That claim is useful when evaluating drift and measurement performance in a harsh environment, but it does not replace checking the specific part’s electrical limits, calibration conditions, or system-level error budget.

Size and mass

Molex says the sensor package is up to 50% smaller and 86% lighter than competing current sensors. These are company comparisons; the published claim does not identify a particular competitor or a universal baseline, so treat them as directional rather than guaranteed savings against any chosen alternative.

CrocSee AC Current Switch, 1-50A Amp Sensor Relay, Normally Open
  • N.O. Universal Outputs: 2.5A @ 120 VAC/240VAC; In 240V circuit, only one 120V hot line is connected.
  • Self-powered, no external power supply required
  • Accurate & Dependable: Offers a sensing range of 1 to 50 amps and universal, solid-state outputs; Accuracy: 1%
  • Faster Response Time: Once current flow is detected, it closes a set of contacts immidiately; Response Time: ≤200ms
  • NOTE: If you want to test the operation of the sensor switch, a load must be applied across the NO contacts; otherwise, it will not work.

Packaging and calibration

Molex describes a proprietary electronics-packaging method that uses 99% less water than typical PCB manufacturing. The figure is Molex’s comparison for that packaging method, not a quantified lifecycle assessment of the complete sensor or busbar assembly.

The sensor-in-busbar approach brings the conductor, sensor, PCB, connectors, and mechanical or heat-sink elements into an integrated package. Molex also describes end-of-line calibration in the busbar, which can simplify final integration and improve repeatability compared with calibrating a loose sensor and then assembling it into a conductor.

Why differential Hall sensing can matter

EV power electronics and motor-drive installations can contain stray magnetic fields from nearby conductors and switching equipment. Molex says the differential Hall arrangement is intended to suppress interference from those fields. That design intent is relevant when comparing sensors for a crowded high-current assembly, but project-level immunity still depends on placement, busbar geometry, nearby sources, and the completed system.

Where Percept may fit

Availability and where to source Percept

Molex’s July 30, 2024 announcement said industrial options were planned for October 2024 and automotive product approval was planned for the first half of 2025. Those were historical targets, not confirmation of current stock or completed approval. For a current purchase or design-in, contact Molex directly or an authorized electronics distributor and verify the exact part number, qualification status, regional availability, inventory, and lifecycle.

Do not substitute a generic Hall-effect module or a bare sensing IC on the assumption that it is equivalent: Percept’s busbar integration, packaging, calibration approach, and published operating specifications are part of the product proposition. Current retail listings and authorized-channel status need to be checked with the supplier.
