Artstorm, the developer of Modern Warships, acknowledged that an in-game vehicle design used concept artist Alex Jay Brady’s work as a reference without proper clearance. Brady said they had not authorized its use. The ship is identified in coverage as the RF Bartini A-2000-7, and its reported acquisition costs range from an estimated $50–$100 through gacha spins to as much as $700 outright. The acknowledgment is not a legal finding, and the available reports do not establish how the dispute ended.
What happened with the Modern Warships design?
Brady created a speculative ekranoplan concept in 2014. Ekranoplans are ground-effect craft designed to operate close to the surface, combining characteristics of aircraft and watercraft. Brady said they had not given Modern Warships permission to use the design.
In a public response quoted by Kotaku’s October 6, 2026 report, Artstorm apologized and said: “Your design was used as a reference without proper clearance. We’ll contact you directly to make this right.” The ship at issue is identified in Plagiarism Today’s October 6, 2026 coverage as the RF Bartini A-2000-7.
What did the artist say about the in-game ship?
Brady told IGN, as quoted by Kotaku, that the design was “the same, with a few minor differences.” Brady also criticized features they viewed as nonfunctional: “the engines wash across the deck, the planes take off backward, not into the wind.” Those are Brady’s judgments about the fictional vehicle; the reports do not provide an independent engineering assessment.

How much does the ship reportedly cost?
Kotaku reports that IGN estimated players might spend $50–$100 to obtain the ship through gacha spins, or as much as $700 to buy it outright. These are reported estimates, not a verified current fixed price or a guarantee that every player would pay those amounts. The figure should not be read as a standard price for all players or all acquisition routes.
What is confirmed—and what remains unresolved?
- Artist’s account: Brady said they had not authorized use of the 2014 concept and described the in-game version as substantially the same with minor differences.
- Developer’s response: Artstorm acknowledged using the work as a reference without proper clearance, apologized, and said it would contact Brady.
- Legal status: The acknowledgment does not itself establish a court finding or determine legal liability.
- Outcome: The reports reviewed do not confirm a settlement, accepted compensation, a final agreement, or whether the vehicle was altered or removed.
The game involved is Modern Warships, developed by Artstorm—not World of Warships.
