Mobvoi announced a phased Wear OS 4 rollout for the TicWatch Pro 5 and TicWatch Pro 5 Enduro on September 3, 2024. Both models had been running Wear OS 3.5. The timing stood out: Google had already introduced Wear OS 5, and Samsung’s first Wear OS 5 watches were reaching the market. Mobvoi’s announcement covered Wear OS 4 for those two watches only; it did not promise Wear OS 5.
Which TicWatches were included?
Mobvoi named the TicWatch Pro 5 and TicWatch Pro 5 Enduro in its September 3, 2024 announcement. The update was for watches running Wear OS 3.5, and Mobvoi said distribution would happen in phases over the following weeks, with availability varying by region and device. Eligible owners were to receive an on-watch notification. Mobvoi’s announcement did not list every TicWatch, so it should not be taken as confirmation for the Pro 3, Pro 3 Ultra, E3, Atlas, or other models.
Why was the rollout considered late?
The gap between platform announcements and Mobvoi’s update explains the “finally” framing. It does not mean Mobvoi was releasing Wear OS 5: Mobvoi was moving these watches from Wear OS 3.5 to Wear OS 4 while Wear OS 5 was arriving on other devices.

That sequence made Mobvoi’s update look behind the newest platform release, but it does not establish how long development or approval took. Nor does it show that the TicWatches could run every Wear OS 5 feature.

What did Wear OS 4 add?
Mobvoi described both general system changes and improvements to its own watch and workout experience. The announcement listed a September 2024 security-patch update, but it did not specify a patch level or promise a recurring patch schedule.
System and phone changes
- Backup and restore: support for backing up and restoring data, settings, and watch faces.
- Phone transfer: the ability to move the watch to a new smartphone without a factory reset. The exact setup can depend on the watch firmware, phone, region, and companion software; back up important data before starting a major update or pairing change.
- System optimizations: Mobvoi listed optimizations but did not quantify their effect on performance or battery life.
Workout and fitness changes
- Improved automatic cycling detection.
- Workout information on the ultra-low-power screen during the pre-identification period.
- More frequent data detection while a workout is being identified.
- Additional GPS data and expanded outdoor statistics, including GPS, distance, and speed.
- Twenty-five new professional workout modes.
- A reorganized workout list that users could customize.
These workout items were described by Mobvoi as part of the update, but they should not all be attributed to Google’s Wear OS platform alone. Some concern Mobvoi’s own fitness software. By contrast, Google’s description of Wear OS 5 said it could use up to 20% less power during an outdoor marathon compared with Wear OS 4, and identified added fitness data such as ground-contact time, stride length, and vertical oscillation. How to check for and install the update
Google’s general Wear OS update instructions recommend Wi-Fi. Menu wording can vary by manufacturer and software version.
- Charge the watch sufficiently, connect it to Wi-Fi, and keep the phone and watch nearby.
- Wake the watch and press the Power button to open the app list.
- Open Settings → System → About → System updates.
- If an update is available, download it and let installation finish without interrupting the watch.
- To update watch apps, open the watch’s Play Store, swipe down, tap My Apps, then update selected apps or choose Update all.
Google’s instructions also note that the Wear OS version shown in a phone app may differ from the watch’s actual operating-system version, and that features and update behavior vary by device and software. If no update appears or installation fails
- Confirm the watch is on Wi-Fi and check Settings → System → About → System updates again.
- Check for app updates in the watch Play Store, then restart the watch and phone.
- If the update fails, Google suggests temporarily turning off Bluetooth and retrying.
- If the watch still does not offer the update, allow for the phased regional rollout. Contact Mobvoi support if the device remains on an unexpected or unsupported build.
A missing update during a phased rollout does not by itself show that an otherwise eligible Pro 5 or Pro 5 Enduro is unsupported.
Did Mobvoi promise Wear OS 5?
No. The September 2024 announcement specified Wear OS 4 and did not give a Wear OS 5 schedule or commitment for either named watch—or for other Mobvoi watches. Owners should treat any later major-version upgrade as unconfirmed unless Mobvoi makes a separate model-specific announcement.
Google announced Wear OS 7 in 2026 and said it was rolling out to eligible Pixel Watch devices. That shows the platform continued to advance; it does not establish that the Pro 5, Pro 5 Enduro, or any other Mobvoi model is eligible for Wear OS 5, 6, or 7. Google’s Wear OS 7 announcement

Should current owners install Wear OS 4?
For an owner of an eligible Pro 5 or Pro 5 Enduro, the update adds the backup and phone-transfer capabilities and workout changes Mobvoi described, as well as the September 2024 security-patch update. Before installing, back up important data, note settings you may need to restore, and update companion apps where prompted.

If the watch is essential for a particular app, watch face, pairing setup, or sensor workflow, check compatibility and consider waiting briefly for reports from users with the same model and region. A major update can affect apps, pairing, sensors, or battery behavior; no TicWatch-specific battery improvement is established by the announcements cited here. Do not interrupt installation.
What should prospective buyers make of the update?
The rollout is useful evidence that Mobvoi brought its two named flagship models to Wear OS 4, but it is not evidence of a dependable schedule for future major updates. Google’s Wear OS device directory lists Mobvoi watches, including the Pro 5 and Pro 5 Enduro; inclusion in that directory does not guarantee later OS upgrades.
Consider a Mobvoi watch if its battery-focused design and dual-display approach matter more to you than having the newest Wear OS version promptly. If timely major-version updates are a priority, compare the specific model’s support record and requirements with alternatives such as Google Pixel Watch, Samsung Galaxy Watch, OnePlus Watch, or Xiaomi Watch. Check phone compatibility, region-specific features, and any ecosystem requirements before choosing; a platform announcement alone does not establish that every feature is available on every watch or in every region.
