Mobilian TrueRadio was a historical two-chip chipset designed to let 802.11b Wi-Fi and Bluetooth operate simultaneously. Its challenge was coordinating two radios sharing the crowded 2.4 GHz band—not introducing a new Wi-Fi standard. The design targeted a PC Card combining both wireless technologies.
What was Mobilian TrueRadio?
TrueRadio was Mobilian Corporation’s two-piece chipset for a combined Wi-Fi and Bluetooth product. Its reported components were the MN22100 and MN12100. It was not a single monolithic radio, and it was not a wireless standard in its own right.
EE Times reported that Mobilian began sampling TrueRadio in 2002. The chipset had been demonstrated at Fall Comdex three years earlier, in 2000. The planned product was a PC Card containing both wireless technologies.
How could it support Wi-Fi and Bluetooth at the same time?
Both 802.11b Wi-Fi and Bluetooth used the 2.4 GHz band, creating the risk that transmissions from one radio would interfere with the other. Mobilian treated this as a system-level coexistence problem rather than relying on one isolated radio workaround.

- M.2 Key E to PCIe X1 WiFi Bluetooth adapter with SMA Antenna Kits, work with NGFF M.2 WiFi module, as well as Coral TPU (M.2 Accelerator A+E key)
- The WiFi signal goes through the PCIe X1 interface, and the Bluetooth signal goes through the USB interface (To enable Bluetooth: The USB cable needs to connect with the motherboard USB port)
- Triple Band 2.4GHz 5GHz 6GHz Antenna: 6 dBi RP-SMA Male antenna, with 2 x 15cm U.FL/IPEX4 to RP-SMA Female pigtail cable
- Compatible with BE200NGW, AX210NGW, AX200NGW, 9260NGW, 8265NGW, 8260NGW, 7265NGW, 7260NGW, and Broadcom, Realtek, Atheros NGFF M.2 2230 Interface (Key E/A+E) WiFi module. Support WiFi 4/5/6/6E/7, Bluetooth 4.0/4.1/4.2/5.0/5.1/5.2/5.3/5.4
- To be noted: can not work with M.2 CNVio2/CNVio interface WiFi module, such as intel AX211NGW, AX201NGW, AC 9560NGW, AC 9462NGW, AC 9461NGW, etc. Not support Mini PCIe WiFi module.
In its April 11, 2001 paper, Wi-Fi (802.11b) and Bluetooth: An Examination of Coexistence Approaches, Mobilian argued that “true, sustainable simultaneous operation can only be achieved by taking a system-level approach across the entire wireless sub-system.” Its approach considered coordination across radio, MAC, driver, and system layers.
This describes the design approach, not a quantified performance result. The available reporting does not establish specific throughput, range, or reliability figures for TrueRadio.

What did the MN22100 and MN12100 do?
MN22100 and MN12100 were the two component names reported for the TrueRadio chipset. The historical account identifies them as parts of a two-chip solution, but does not provide enough detail to assign a specific radio or other function to each part. It is therefore more accurate to describe them together as TrueRadio’s components than to infer their individual roles.
What was the planned product and its cost target?
Mobilian intended TrueRadio for a PC Card combining 802.11b and Bluetooth. The 2003 report put the planned card’s bill of materials below $35. That figure refers to the reported component-cost target for the planned card, not a verified retail price or current price.

What happened to Mobilian?
EE Times reported that Mobilian was founded in 1999 and acquired by Intel on November 7, 2003. At the time of the report, the company had 70 employees and had raised $70 million since its founding. These figures describe the company as reported in 2003, not its present-day operations.
The Bluetooth SIG’s specification history acknowledges Mobilian contributors Adrian Stephens, Jim Lansford, and James P. Gilb. Their inclusion is evidence of Mobilian’s participation in Bluetooth-era technical work; it does not establish that every Mobilian product was Bluetooth-certified.

Can you still buy a Mobilian TrueRadio card?
TrueRadio is a historical chipset, and the available evidence does not establish current production, retail availability, or pricing for a TrueRadio PC Card. Mobilian’s acquisition by Intel in 2003 is corporate history, not evidence that Intel sells or supports this chipset today.

If you need combined Wi-Fi and Bluetooth now, look for a currently supported wireless module or adapter and verify its Wi-Fi generation, Bluetooth version, host interface, operating-system drivers, simultaneous-operation support, and availability. A modern combo product is not necessarily electrically or protocol-equivalent to TrueRadio.
