No. MLB will not continue evaluating Grand Teton National Park as a possible game site, Commissioner Rob Manfred told local leaders on October 1, 2026. Manfred said the league had no formal plan for a game there and had only been conducting initial due diligence on potential sites. He cited local concerns as the reason to stop considering the park.
Why did MLB drop the Grand Teton idea?
Manfred said MLB would not bring a game to a community concerned about the venue. In a letter to Teton County Commission Chair Mark Newcomb, Jackson Mayor Arne Jorgensen, Jackson Hole Chamber of Commerce President Rick Howe, and U.S. Sen. Martin Heinrich, he said the league would stop evaluating Grand Teton after local opposition became clear. The Associated Press reported that the local leaders had voiced objections.
Manfred wrote, “We obviously would not bring a game to a community that has concerns about the venue and will not continue to evaluate Grand Teton National Park as a potential site.” The Associated Press reproduced that sentence from his letter.
Was a Grand Teton game actually planned?
No formal plan had been made, according to Manfred. He wrote, “MLB has no formal plan to play a game in Grand Teton National Park,” as reported by the Associated Press. He characterized the league’s work as initial due diligence on several possible sites, not approval to stage an event at the park.

An earlier Associated Press report said MLB had asked the federal government whether a game at a national park was possible. It also reported that the National Park Service had not granted permits. A preliminary inquiry is not the same as an approved venue or scheduled game.
How does the idea fit MLB’s past special-event games?
MLB has staged special-event or neutral-site games away from regular major-league ballparks. The Associated Press named games in Dyersville, Iowa, at Rickwood Field in Birmingham, at Bristol Motor Speedway, and events connected to the Little League World Series. Those examples show the league’s interest in unusual venues, but they do not indicate that a Grand Teton event had been approved or reached the same stage.
