For most U.S. fans watching a team that is genuinely out of market, MLB.TV is the most direct option. It is built to stream out-of-market regular-season games live or on demand, subject to blackout restrictions. Live TV streaming services are channel bundles: they can add local or nationally televised games and other channels, but they are not universal workarounds for MLB.TV blackouts.
Your ZIP code and favorite team determine the right choice. Check MLB’s blackout and subscription information before signing up.
MLB.TV vs. live TV streaming: what is the difference?
MLB.TV is a baseball-focused service for out-of-market regular-season games. Live TV streaming services package television channels; whether they show a particular MLB game depends on the channels available in your market and which network has that game.
| Option | Best fit | Key limitation |
|---|---|---|
| MLB.TV | Watching regular-season games involving a team outside your home market | Local blackouts and national exclusivities apply; not every game is available live to every viewer. MLB |
| Live TV streaming service | Watching channels that carry selected local or national games, along with other live TV | Channel lineups vary by ZIP code, and a service may not carry the channel showing a particular game. Sling |
| Team-local streaming package | Watching a participating club’s games from within its home territory | Availability, pricing, and terms differ by club and distribution arrangement. MLB |
MLB also lists features such as MLB Network, Minor League Baseball, MLB Big Inning, and live audio on its package information. What is included or accessible can depend on the plan and platform; check the current offer details at MLB’s subscription page.

Is MLB.TV best for watching out-of-market games?
Usually, yes, if your main goal is to follow a team outside your home market. MLB describes MLB.TV as offering out-of-market regular-season games live or on demand, subject to restrictions. Start by checking whether the team is out of market where you watch, then review blackout and national-exclusivity conditions.
Check your team and location first
Blackout eligibility is geographic. A game involving a team in your home market can be blacked out on MLB.TV whether that team is playing at home or away. Use MLB’s location-based blackout tool with your ZIP code and favorite team before buying. The same team can therefore be out of market for one viewer and in market for another.
Account for nationally exclusive games
Being out of market does not mean every game is available on MLB.TV. National exclusivity can affect where a game is shown, so check the applicable game and broadcast arrangements as well as local blackout status. MLB’s package information identifies blackouts and national exclusivities as restrictions.

Do not assume that MLB.TV will show your local team’s games. When a team is in your home market, its games can be blacked out on MLB.TV. Look instead for the club’s local streaming package or the local broadcaster and channel carrying its games.

Check whether the team has a local streaming package
MLB’s guide published March 10, 2026, listed in-market streaming subscriptions for 22 of MLB’s 30 clubs for the 2026 season. That is a season-specific count, not a permanent availability figure. MLB says these local options remove local blackouts within the club’s home territory; packages, prices, and terms vary, particularly where a team’s games are distributed through an RSN partnership. See the current MLB guide to watching games without cable and the team’s own offer for details.
Do not rely on a generic live TV bundle to cover every local game
A live TV service only helps when it carries the channel showing the game in your market. Channel availability differs by location, and a service may not carry the local RSN or national channel you need. Check the provider’s lineup for your ZIP code and the club’s broadcast information.
When does a live TV streaming service make sense?
Choose a live TV service when you need channels for selected local or national broadcasts, or want live channels beyond baseball. It can complement MLB.TV: use MLB.TV for eligible out-of-market games and the channel bundle for broadcasts available through its lineup. Neither option should be treated as a guarantee that every game will be accessible.

Check the current channel lineup for your ZIP code against the games and networks you want. Sling says some MLB games on FOX and NBC are available only in select locations, and describes MLB.TV as an add-on for out-of-market games. Its MLB viewing information is a useful example of the distinction between a channel bundle and a baseball out-of-market package.

If you are considering Fubo with MLB.TV
Fubo documents MLB.TV integration, but says games involving a team in your home market remain blacked out on MLB.TV—even if Fubo does not carry the RSN or national channel airing that game. Check Fubo’s current MLB and MLB.TV support information rather than treating the integration as a blackout fix.

- Identify your market: Use your ZIP code and favorite team in MLB’s blackout tool. Confirm whether the team is in or out of market for you.
- List the games you care about: Note the team’s regular-season games, plus any local or nationally televised broadcasts you want. Check restrictions and game-specific exclusivity.
- Match games to services: For an out-of-market team, compare MLB.TV’s coverage with the games subject to restrictions. For an in-market team, check its local streaming package and broadcaster.
- Verify channels by ZIP code: If considering live TV streaming, confirm that the provider carries the required channel in your location. Do not infer local RSN availability from a national channel list.
- Compare current terms and devices: Review subscription price, renewal date, package eligibility, app access, and supported devices before paying. Offers and lineups can change.
Can you buy MLB.TV through ESPN?
In the U.S. for the 2026 season, MLB.TV is available for purchase and streaming through the ESPN app, while MLB app access remains available. MLB says an ESPN Unlimited subscription is not required to keep MLB.TV. Confirm current plan and app details in ESPN’s MLB.TV support page and MLB’s current subscription information before subscribing.
A compatible device is still required to stream, but buying hardware does not include a streaming subscription or change blackout eligibility. ESPN’s support page lists Roku among compatible devices.

What does MLB.TV or live TV streaming cost?
There is no single stable price in the available official offer pages that can be treated as a universal annual list price. MLB’s displayed offers can vary, and local team packages and live TV channel bundles have separate terms. Check the current price, renewal date, discounts, package contents, and local availability on each service’s official page before comparing your total cost.
