For a team outside your home television territory, MLB.TV is usually the most direct way to watch its regular-season games live or on demand. It is an out-of-market service, not a way around local blackouts: if the team is in-market for your location, MLB.TV does not provide its live regular-season games. Cable, satellite, live-TV streaming and a team’s local streaming service may be better routes for those games, while nationally exclusive games can require a separate partner service.

Before choosing, check your ZIP code, team and the games you care about. The best fit depends on territory, channel availability and what you already pay for—not simply on how many channels a TV bundle includes.

How the options differ

Option Best fit Key limits and checks
MLB.TV out-of-market subscription Following a team outside your designated home television territory, with access through a supported device. Local blackouts apply, and the subscription does not provide live games for an in-market team. Some games exclusive to national partners are not on MLB.TV.
MLB.TV through ESPN An MLB.TV subscriber who prefers the ESPN App, or an eligible existing ESPN Unlimited subscriber. MLB.TV and ESPN Unlimited are separate subscriptions; ESPN Unlimited is not required to buy MLB.TV. Check the current offer and exact plan entitlements.
Cable, satellite or telecom TV package, including MLB Extra Innings A viewer who wants traditional TV delivery or needs local channels, or wants to ask a provider about its baseball package. Channels depend on provider and market. MLB directs customers to their provider for Extra Innings pricing; a package is not proof that every desired local or national game is included.
Live-TV streaming plan A viewer who also wants a broader live-channel bundle and whose exact plan carries the needed channels or includes ESPN Unlimited. RSNs, local stations and ESPN products vary by tier and market. Territory restrictions and national exclusivity still apply.
Team’s local streaming subscription A fan watching an in-market team where the club offers a local direct-to-consumer service. Not all clubs have an offer on uniform terms. Check the team and ZIP code; prices for services tied to six RSN-distributed clubs varied by market in MLB’s 2026 guide.

These distinctions are reflected in MLB’s 2026 streaming guide and its ESPN support page.

What “out of market” means—and why blackouts matter

“Out of market” describes whether your location is outside a team’s home television territory; it does not mean the game is being played away from home. A team can be on the road and still be in-market for you. MLB.TV’s regular-season package is for out-of-market games, live or on demand, subject to blackout restrictions.

MLB’s 2026 guide says its out-of-market product does not provide live games for an in-market team. T-Mobile’s 2026 benefits FAQ says MLB.TV identifies market chiefly through device geolocation and IP address. Use MLB’s official restrictions and subscription tools with your ZIP code and team before purchasing. A different streaming device cannot change your territory or remove a blackout.

What MLB.TV costs in the 2026 offers

MLB’s March 10, 2026 guide lists a full-season MLB.TV subscription at $149.99 for a new customer without an existing ESPN Unlimited plan, or $134.99 for an existing ESPN Unlimited subscriber. The Associated Press reported a $29.99 monthly option on February 10, 2026. These are reported 2026 offers, not a guarantee of the current checkout price; confirm the price and eligibility before subscribing.

You can buy MLB.TV without ESPN Unlimited and watch through the MLB App or ESPN App, according to MLB. The discounted annual price is relevant only if you already have an eligible ESPN Unlimited subscription; do not count it as a saving if you would need to add a separate plan solely to qualify.

The AP reported that Spectrum, DirecTV, Fubo TV, Hulu Live TV and Verizon Fios subscribers had ESPN Unlimited access through their plan at the time of its February 2026 report. Eligibility can depend on the specific package and market. Check your plan’s current entitlements rather than assuming that any subscription from one of those providers includes it. The AP also reported 30 games exclusive to ESPN under a new three-year agreement, characterized primarily as summer weeknight games; that deal-level count does not mean every game on a particular date is exclusive.

Watching a team that is local to you

MLB said 22 of 30 clubs had an in-market streaming option as of March 10, 2026. For listed non-RSN club offerings, MLB gave prices of $99.99 per season or $19.99 per month; its listed local-plus-out-of-market bundle was $199.99 per season or $39.99 per month. Those figures do not apply universally: MLB said prices for six RSN-distributed clubs varied by market. Check the club’s offer for your address before comparing costs.

For clubs whose local games are carried through a regional sports network or broadcast channel, a cable, satellite, telecom or live-TV streaming package may be the relevant route if it carries that channel in your market. MLB said the 14 clubs whose games it produced remained available in their home territories through cable, satellite and telecom providers. That does not establish that every provider or package carries every local game.

Nationally exclusive games can require another service

Local access and out-of-market access do not guarantee access to every game. MLB says select regular-season and postseason games exclusive to national partners are carried on those partners’ services rather than MLB.TV or Club.TV. If you follow particular games, check the schedule and the partner carrying them; a large channel lineup alone does not establish that it includes every game you want.

Choose based on your team, ZIP code and existing plan

  1. Check whether your team is in-market. Use MLB’s restrictions tool with your ZIP code and team. If it is in-market, do not buy MLB.TV expecting its live regular-season games.
  2. For an out-of-market team, compare MLB.TV first. Confirm the current price, whether you want a season or monthly option, the viewing app and supported device categories. ESPN Unlimited is not a prerequisite.
  3. For an in-market team, compare local routes. Check the club’s local streaming offer and whether a cable, satellite, telecom or live-TV plan carries the relevant local channel in your ZIP code.
  4. Check national exclusives separately. Identify whether games you care about are carried by a national partner rather than the local or out-of-market service you are considering.
  5. Compare your real total cost. Include the annual cost of an existing TV plan, any add-on needed for the channel or ESPN entitlement, and the MLB subscription. Do not compare a standalone price with a bundle’s headline price without accounting for what you would otherwise pay.
  6. Check device support before buying. ESPN lists supported device categories on its support page, but the cited guidance does not establish compatibility for every television model.

The sources do not establish one nationwide best-value service: territory, ZIP code, team, provider lineup and existing subscriptions change the answer.

What not to count on

  • A way around local restrictions: MLB.TV is for out-of-market games and remains subject to blackouts.
  • Every game in one subscription: select national-exclusive games can be carried by partner services instead.
  • A universal local-streaming price: club availability and RSN-market pricing differ.
  • An old promotion: T-Mobile’s 2026 MLB.TV redemption window ran March 24–31, 2026 and has ended.
  • A particular TV model working automatically: check device support for the app you plan to use; no specific model compatibility is established by the cited ESPN guidance.
