A “missed MT5 entry” is an observation, not proof that an Expert Advisor (EA) received a valid signal. Trace the event through four checkpoints: confirm that price history covers the relevant symbol and time, determine whether the EA evaluated its entry condition, check whether it sent a trade request and what happened to it, and look for a resulting order or deal. Missing market data makes the event uncertain; it does not show that an entry rule became true.
What to record before investigating
Freeze the context for the event before changing settings or rerunning a test. A different EA build, input, date range, or modeling mode can produce a different result, so keep the original details together.
- Symbol and timeframe.
- Event time, including the broker-server timestamp and the timezone used to describe it.
- EA name and build, plus its input values; preserve the source or exact binary if available.
- Whether the observation came from a live chart or Strategy Tester.
- For a test, the date range, modeling mode, and exact tester settings.
Without this context, two runs may not be reproducing the same event.

Start with the Strategy Tester journal and identify the interval the tester actually modeled—not just the dates selected in the dialog. Look for history download or synchronization messages, the first available history time, tick-data checks, and any indication that the test start shifted. MetaQuotes explains that the tester synchronizes history and may download missing data; it also needs preceding bars for indicator calculations. Keep tick history and minute bars separate in your notes. The tester documentation describes cases where it generates ticks when minute bars exist without ticks, and cases where tick data does not align with minute bars. A gap or mismatch is a coverage or data-quality question to check against the expected trading session and the broker’s available history; it is not evidence that the EA’s entry condition was met. MetaQuotes states, “The tester requires at least 100 bars on the selected timeframe before modeling can begin.” This is a requirement described for test initialization on the selected timeframe, not a universal rule for every live EA or a guarantee that the event interval has complete data.

Checkpoint 2: Did the EA evaluate the entry condition?
Inspect the EA’s Experts output at the event time for its own messages and any indicator messages. Then compare it with the platform Journal, which records terminal events including trade operations. These logs answer different questions; one does not replace the other. MetaQuotes documents their roles in Platform Logs.

Align timestamps carefully. The platform Journal time is local-computer time, while an event may be described using broker-server time. Record the time basis for each log entry before deciding that two messages occurred at the same moment. If the EA did not log its condition checks, the absence of a message does not by itself establish whether the logic evaluated or what it concluded.

Checkpoint 3: Did the EA send a request, and what happened?
In Strategy Tester, use the Toolbox history views for orders and deals, and inspect the history of EA trade requests. The Strategy Testing documentation describes these trade-history views.
- A request appears, but no resulting deal is visible: inspect the request outcome and the tester or broker response. This points to a request outcome to investigate; it does not, on its own, prove the EA missed a signal.
- A deal appears: check whether the apparent miss is instead a chart display, EA state, or reporting issue.
- No request is visible: return to the Experts output and EA logic. The evidence has not yet shown that a trade request was sent.
These are diagnostic branches, not conclusions about a particular account. Match the records to the same symbol and event time before drawing one.

Checkpoint 4: Is an order or deal recorded?
Use the history record as the final checkpoint, not as a substitute for the earlier ones. A deal establishes that a trade was recorded; an order or request without a deal requires checking its outcome. If none of these records can be matched to the event, the evidence does not yet identify where the chain stopped.
How to describe the finding accurately
Keep the four checkpoints distinct in your conclusion: history coverage, EA evaluation, request and outcome, and order or deal. State what the logs establish, what remains unavailable, and which timestamp basis you used. If the relevant tick or bar is absent, describe an evidence gap—not a confirmed signal.

Without the exact event time, logs, EA logic and build, settings, and market-history coverage, the cause of a particular missed MT5 entry cannot be assigned. Those records are what distinguish incomplete data from an EA decision, a request outcome, or a reporting discrepancy.
