Milwaukee’s 2026 M18 5.0 Ah update keeps the same stated capacity but claims up to 50% more power than its previous 5 Ah pack. The product is called the HIGH OUTPUT XC5 in the U.S. and the HIGH OUTPUT HB5 in Europe. Milwaukee positions the gain for medium- and high-demand work—not as a promise that every tool will run 50% faster or longer.
What changed—and what did not
The capacity is still 5.0 Ah. Milwaukee’s U.S. announcement says the new M18 REDLITHIUM HIGH OUTPUT XC5 delivers up to 50% more power than the REDLITHIUM XC5.0. In Europe, Milwaukee describes the HB5 as delivering up to 50% more work than the M18 REDLITHIUM 5.0 Ah battery in medium- and high-demand applications under the same test conditions. The company attributes the improvement to sustained output and reduced thermal shutdown. These are Milwaukee’s claims, not independently published battery-test results.
That distinction matters: more power is not the same as 50% more runtime, nor does it mean a tool will complete every task 50% faster. The stated benefit targets work that places higher demands on the battery.

XC5 or HB5? The name depends on your market

Milwaukee Europe says the pack is compatible with the entire M18 line, which the company describes as containing more than 325 solutions. Check the market and SKU before ordering: the regional announcements use different model names, and they do not establish that listings or warranties are interchangeable across regions.

What the performance comparison says
The U.S. announcement says XC5 output now matches the REDLITHIUM HIGH OUTPUT XC6.0. Milwaukee says the new pack is 25% smaller and 30% lighter than batteries delivering comparable power. Those size and weight comparisons are Milwaukee’s, and refer to batteries delivering comparable power—not a stated comparison with every older M18 5 Ah pack.
The European announcement frames its claim as up to 50% more work completed in medium- and high-demand applications under the same test conditions. No independent published study or test result is provided in the official announcements cited here, so treat the percentages as manufacturer claims rather than verified results across tools and jobs.

Standard or resistant: which version fits your work?
The resistant version is for users who need extra protection from contact with certain shop or jobsite substances. Milwaukee describes its housing as intended to resist exposure to oils, solvents, and greases. The European announcement also describes a fuel gauge designed to remain visible in direct sunlight and latches intended to be easy to operate with or without gloves. These are manufacturer-described design features, not independent durability findings.

- Consider the resistant version if oils, solvents, or greases are a regular part of the environment; verify the correct regional SKU before purchase.
Charging: the published times are specific to Milwaukee super chargers
For the European HB5, Milwaukee says its super chargers can charge the battery to 80% in 28 minutes and fully recharge it in 39 minutes. Those times are not a general estimate for every M18 charger. The cited announcement does not establish equivalent charge times with other chargers.

Is the extra performance worth paying for?
That depends on the local price and on whether your work benefits from the claimed output. The official announcements cited here do not establish current retail pricing, in-country stock, launch timing in every country, or whether the earlier M18 5 Ah pack has been discontinued. Without a dated local listing, there is no supported price-premium or value verdict.
Before comparing options, check the regional model identifier, the specific performance claim and its application conditions, size and weight information, whether resistant housing is useful, and charger compatibility. Then compare current local prices and availability from a retailer serving your market.
