Milwaukee charger labels do not describe six mutually exclusive designs. To choose correctly, check the battery platform first, then how many packs charge at once, the charger’s speed tier, and where it gets power or mounts. A “rapid” charger, for example, may charge packs one after another, while a rapid station can charge several simultaneously.
The six categories below are a practical way to compare chargers—not an official Milwaukee taxonomy. Product features overlap, so the model number and product page matter more than the label.
Start with the battery platform: M12, M18, or both
M12 and M18 are distinct battery systems. Do not assume that a charger accepts both just because it has multiple bays or uses the word “super.” Check the exact model’s compatibility information before buying.
- Cross-platform: Milwaukee says the 48-59-1808 Rapid Charger accepts all M12 and M18 batteries. Its product page identifies it as an M12/M18 charger.
- M18-only: Milwaukee explicitly says its 48-59-1815 M18 Dual Bay Simultaneous Super Charger does not charge M12 batteries. See its product page and FAQ.
- M12-only: The 48-59-2401 is an M12 Lithium-ion Battery Charger. Check its product page when considering a single-platform charger.
Milwaukee’s FAQ for the 48-59-1818 Four Bay Simultaneous Super Charger says, “All M18™ and M12™ chargers are compatible with all M18™ and M12™ batteries.” Read that in the context of chargers labeled for both platforms: Milwaukee separately states that the M18-only 48-59-1815 does not charge M12 packs. The Four Bay Super Charger FAQ answers yes to whether that model charges existing M18 and M12 batteries.

- Product will either come in original packaging that is in less than perfect shape and has been opened to inspect contents or will come in non-retail packaging (brown/white box or white/clear bag). Charges pack up to 40% faster, reducing downtime and maximizing productivity.
- The charger accepts all M18 and M12 batteries, providing an upgrade for both systems.
- The charger indicates when the battery reaches an 80% charge.
- Single unit simplicity for quick charge of all M12 and M18 battery packs.
- Sequential charging: automatically charges the second inserted pack once the first pack is fully charged.
Six useful charger categories—and where they overlap
These buckets help make sense of Milwaukee’s lineup, but they are not exclusive. A charger can be rapid, multi-bay, cross-platform, and designed for a particular mounting or storage setup at the same time.
1. Standard single-platform chargers
A basic charger may serve just one battery system. The M12 Lithium-ion Battery Charger 48-59-2401 is an example. Confirm the platform marking on the specific model rather than inferring compatibility from its appearance.
2. Cross-platform standard or sequential chargers
Some chargers accept M12 and M18 packs, but compatibility does not tell you how quickly or how many batteries they charge. The 48-59-1808 is a cross-platform rapid charger that charges sequentially; it is an example, not a definition of every cross-platform charger.

- DUAL CHARGING: This charger can tackle both 18 and 12 volt Milwaukee batteries, holding one of each in the unit at the same time.
- SEQUENTIAL CHARGING: Do not worry about managing charge cycles. This will take care of your batteries one at a time, devoting full charging power to each one.
- BATTERY COMMUNICATION: The charger has a chip that communicates with its batteries, keeping track of how much they have charged. It saves you power by reducing the amount of charge produced as the battery reaches full charge.
- FAST ACTING: Compact batteries can be fully charged in as little as 30 minutes, while extended life batteries can be charged in as little as a single hour.
- INDICATOR LIGHTS let you know whether a battery is charging, fully charged, and whether it needs maintenance or not.
3. Rapid chargers
“Rapid” describes a speed tier, not simultaneous charging. Milwaukee says the 48-59-1808 Rapid Charger accepts M12 and M18 batteries and claims up to 40% faster charging. It charges packs sequentially, so a second battery waits until the first is done.
4. Multi-bay rapid stations
The 48-59-1807 Rapid Charge Station accepts up to three M18 and three M12 packs and charges three batteries simultaneously. Its product page makes the distinction between its total capacity and the number charging at once.
5. Super chargers
“Super” does not guarantee a particular platform or bay count. The 48-59-1818 is a four-bay simultaneous M18/M12 model with PACKOUT compatibility. The 48-59-1815 is an M18-only dual-bay simultaneous model and does not charge M12 batteries. Compare their Four Bay Super Charger page and Dual Bay Super Charger page.

6. Special-purpose chargers
Some models prioritize power source, mounting, or jobsite storage. The 48-59-1810 Vehicle Charger runs from a vehicle’s 12V or 24V DC outlet and charges packs sequentially. The 48-59-1804 Gangbox Rapid Charger has four bays, charges two batteries simultaneously before moving to the next pair, and is designed for steel jobsite storage with magnetic and cleat mounting options. These designs can also be rapid, multi-bay, or cross-platform; “special-purpose” describes their setup needs, not a separate charging behavior.

How to interpret charge-time claims
Charge time depends on the battery pack, charger, and surrounding conditions, according to Milwaukee. A time quoted for one battery on one charger is not a promise for every pack or charging setup.
Milwaukee Tool’s current guidance reports room-temperature estimates for its Super Charger: an M18 REDLITHIUM FORGE XC6.0 fully charged in 25 minutes, reaching 80% in 15 minutes; an M18 HIGH OUTPUT HD12.0 in 60 minutes; an M18 HIGH OUTPUT XC8.0 in 45 minutes; and an M18 REDLITHIUM XC5.0 in 60 minutes. Milwaukee says actual results may vary. The page does not give a publication year for these estimates. Consult the M18 Batteries & Chargers page for the manufacturer’s current information.

If you own both M12 and M18 tools
Choose a model explicitly marked for both platforms, such as the 48-59-1808 or 48-59-1818. Do not infer cross-platform support from a charger’s name or bay count; the 48-59-1815 is an example of a multi-bay charger that is M18-only.

If you need to clear several batteries quickly
Decide whether you need more bays or more packs charging at the same time. The 48-59-1808 is sequential; the 48-59-1807 charges three simultaneously; and the 48-59-1818 charges four simultaneously. For the 48-59-1804, four slots do not mean four packs charging together: it handles two at a time.
If your batteries need charging in a vehicle or locked jobsite storage
The 48-59-1810 uses a vehicle 12V or 24V DC outlet and charges sequentially. The 48-59-1804 is designed for steel gangbox storage and offers magnetic and cleat mounting. For a PACKOUT-compatible setup, the 48-59-1818 is the four-bay option identified for that compatibility.
If speed is the deciding factor
Look for a charge-time estimate for your exact battery model, not just “rapid” or “super” on the charger label. Milwaukee’s estimates are manufacturer figures from room-temperature testing, and it says actual results may vary.
Check the exact model before purchase
- Read the battery label. Identify whether your pack is M12, M18, or both types are in your kit.
- Verify charger compatibility. Use the charger’s model number and Milwaukee product page; do not treat “multi-bay,” “rapid,” or “super” as compatibility guarantees.
- Count simultaneous charging positions. Distinguish total bays from the number of packs receiving power at once.
- Match the charging routine. Compare the stated charge behavior and any estimate for your battery model.
- Check power and placement. Confirm whether you need a vehicle DC outlet, bench or jobsite AC charging, gangbox mounting, or PACKOUT compatibility.
Product specifications and availability can change. Confirm the live Milwaukee product page for the model you plan to use.
