The MikroTik CRS354-48P-4S+2Q+RM is a compelling fit when you need 48 Gigabit PoE ports, fast 10G and 40G uplinks, and centralized power management in one rack switch. Its value depends on whether you can use that port density and 700 W PoE budget: it is Layer 2-focused, has a single power supply, and should not be treated as a quiet switch for an office or living space.
What the CRS354-48P-4S+2Q+RM offers
The model provides 54 network ports: 48 Gigabit Ethernet RJ45 access ports, four 10G SFP+ ports, and two 40G QSFP+ ports. MikroTik’s product page lists a suggested price of $999, which is not a verified retailer transaction price or a guarantee of current availability. MikroTik CRS354-48P-4S+2Q+RM product page
Its core strength is combining a high-density copper access layer with a substantial PoE budget and high-speed uplinks. It makes the most sense for a network with many wired PoE endpoints—such as access points, cameras, or phones—and an uplink design that can use 10G or 40G. If you do not need that many powered ports or the uplink capacity, the price and power infrastructure may be harder to justify.

MikroTik specifies PoE output on Ethernet ports 1–48, support for 802.3af/at and passive PoE, and a total PoE output budget of 700 W. The per-port current limits differ between 26 V and 53 V operation, so the total budget does not mean every port can deliver its maximum output simultaneously. Check the switch’s current documentation against the voltage and draw requirements of the actual devices you plan to power. MikroTik product specifications MikroTik product manual

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Centralized PoE monitoring and power cycling can be useful when cameras or access points are mounted somewhere inconvenient to reach. ServeTheHome described those management capabilities in its 2020 review; they can reduce the need for a physical visit to restart a device, but do not establish a reliability guarantee. Switching performance and software options
MikroTik lists a 650 MHz single-core QCA9531 CPU, a Marvell 98DX3257 switch chip, 128 MB RAM, and 32 MB flash. Its manufacturer figures are 168 Gbps non-blocking throughput, 336 Gbps switching capacity, and 235 Mpps forwarding rate. These aggregate switching figures describe the switch fabric, not a promise that CPU-driven routing or every enabled feature will perform at the same rate. The manufacturer’s test tables vary by workload and packet accounting. MikroTik product specifications

The unit dual-boots RouterOS and SwitchOS. Configuration options documented by MikroTik include WebFig, WinBox, and the RJ45 serial console. ServeTheHome tested RouterOS in 2020 and found that performance declined when Layer 3 functions were added, describing the product as primarily a Layer 2 switch. That is a dated review observation, not a measurement of current software behavior; buyers whose main workload is routing should assess the official routing figures and their specific feature requirements rather than infer routing performance from the switching-capacity headline. ServeTheHome measured 18 W idle, 64 W maximum without PoE, and 542 W maximum draw in its 2020 test setup. The reviewer also reported noticeable fan ramp-up under load and recommended equipment-closet installation. These are observations from that test, not guaranteed consumption or noise levels for every deployment. The review cautioned against fan swaps because cooling demand rises with power use; the unit should not be assumed silent. ServeTheHome review, April 6, 2020
Power redundancy and the non-PoE alternative
The PoE model’s single power input is an important trade-off for deployments where continued service after a PSU or feed failure is required. The same-family CRS354-48G-4S+2Q+RM keeps the 48 Gigabit, four 10G SFP+, and two 40G QSFP+ port pattern, omits PoE, and lists two AC inputs/PSU slots. The models therefore address different needs; the non-PoE version is not a like-for-like substitute if endpoints need switch-supplied power. MikroTik CRS354-48G-4S+2Q+RM product page

Is the CRS354-48P-4S+2Q+RM good value?
Value here depends on the cost of the capabilities you will actually use. MikroTik currently lists a $999 suggested price. ServeTheHome described a $700–$750 street price and $899 list price in April 2020; those figures are historical and should not be read as current market pricing. Current retailer prices and availability have not been established. MikroTik product page ServeTheHome review, April 6, 2020
