Midland Bank PLC announced on October 5, 2026 that its Banani Branch in Dhaka is now a full-fledged Islami Banking Branch. Managing Director Imtiaz U. Ahmed inaugurated it together with members of the bank’s Shariah Supervisory Committee. The bank says the branch will offer Shariah-compliant deposit, investment and other banking services to individual and corporate customers. It has not published specific products or terms.

Where the branch is

The bank gives the address as Nilufar Heights, B-52 (1st Floor), Kamal Ataturk Avenue, Banani, Dhaka (Midland Bank announcement). Midland’s branch directory lists the Banani location with contact and operating details. It may not yet show the new Islami configuration, so confirm opening hours and available services with the branch before you visit.

What the branch will offer

In the bank’s own words: “The Banani Islami Banking Branch will provide a comprehensive suite of Shariah-compliant deposit, investment, and other modern banking services to both individual and corporate clients.” That is the bank’s description, not an independent assessment.

The announcement does not name any accounts or investment products. It also gives no eligibility rules, minimum balances, profit-sharing ratios, fees or a service-by-service list. The bank describes demand for Islami banking as increasing but publishes no figure to support that.

Oversight and who attended

Midland says its Islami Banking operations are guided by its Shariah Supervisory Committee and follow relevant Bangladesh Bank guidelines. This is the bank’s stated framework. The announcement is not a regulator’s review or an audit of the branch.

  • Shariah Supervisory Committee: chairman Dr. Mufti Muhammad Abu Sayeed Khan, and members Dr. Abu Yousuf Md. Nesar Uddin and Dr. Muhammad Shahjahan Madani.
  • Deputy managing directors: Md. Zahid Hossain and Md. Nazmul Huda Sarkar.

Background: Midland’s Islamic banking window

A 2023 Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission prospectus says Midland received an Islamic Banking Window license from Bangladesh Bank on December 5, 2019. It also says the bank launched its MDB Salaam platform on April 19, 2020. This predates the Banani conversion. It is not a branch-specific approval and says nothing about the branch’s current product terms.
