Important: The Midea MAW12V1QWT was included in a June 5, 2025 U.S. recall of Midea U and U+ window air conditioners. The CPSC says pooled water may fail to drain and lead to mold growth. Owners and prospective buyers should check the exact model and serial number through Midea’s official recall process and follow its current instructions before treating a unit as resolved.
On paper, the MAW12V1QWT combines 12,000 Btu/h cooling with a window-friendly U-shaped design and ENERGY STAR-certified efficiency figures. Its flexible window design comes with a more involved installation, and the recall status is a central part of any buying or ownership decision. The figures below identify whether they come from Midea, ENERGY STAR, or independent reviewers; this article has not independently tested the appliance.
What is the Midea MAW12V1QWT?
The MAW12V1QWT is a 12,000 Btu/h U-shaped smart window air conditioner. Midea lists cooling, dehumidifying and ventilation modes, inverter operation, app and voice-assistant control, and a reusable washable filter. Its U-shaped chassis allows a compatible window to close through the unit, so the window can remain operable after installation.

Recall status: check before buying or using
On June 5, 2025, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a recall covering about 1.7 million Midea U and U+ window air conditioners in the United States and about 45,900 in Canada. The CPSC’s affected-model list includes MAW12V1QWT. It says pooled water may not drain quickly enough, potentially leading to mold growth and respiratory issues or other infections for some consumers.
The recall notice directs owners of affected units to contact Midea for a free repair or a full or prorated refund. The refund depends on the purchase date or manufacture date. Do not assume that a unit is affected, safe, repaired, or eligible based only on its model name: verify the model and serial number and follow the latest instructions at Midea’s official recall page. If considering a specific unit for purchase, ask for its recall resolution details and verify them directly with Midea.
ENERGY STAR efficiency and estimated running cost
ENERGY STAR’s model record, certified July 18, 2023, lists a cooling capacity of 12,000 Btu/h, annual energy use of 600 kWh, a CEER of 15.0, and energy use 38% below the U.S. federal standard. These standardized figures help compare units, but they do not predict a particular household’s bill or savings.

The FTC EnergyGuide label estimates yearly energy cost at $63. That estimate assumes electricity at 13 cents per kWh and seasonal use of eight hours a day for three months. Your utility rate, climate, room conditions, thermostat setting, and operating hours can make actual costs substantially different.

Installation and window flexibility
The U-shaped design is intended to let the window move through the appliance rather than remain permanently blocked by a conventional window AC chassis. RTINGS notes that its reviewed model’s window could open after installation. That convenience does not make installation effortless: RTINGS also says the setup is more demanding because it requires additional anti-tip brackets.
Before installation, check the manual’s window and mounting requirements for your particular setup, use the specified brackets, and ensure the unit is secured as directed. Do not assume that a window opening or installation method suitable for another Midea U-series variant applies to this exact model.

What independent reviews report
RTINGS identifies its review model as included in the June 2025 voluntary recall and notes the extra bracket requirements. TechGearLab reports quiet operation and strong energy efficiency compared with models of similar specifications in its own testing. Those are the reviewers’ findings, not measurements made for this article; they do not establish how loud or efficient every individual unit will be in a particular room.

Warranty coverage
Midea’s detailed MAW12V1QWT manual describes a one-year limited warranty, a five-year limited warranty for the sealed system including refrigerant components, and a three-year limited compressor warranty, all subject to terms and exclusions. The product page’s summary field says “1 year,” so read the manual and confirm which terms apply to your purchase and region rather than relying on the summary alone.
Verdict: a capable specification sheet with a recall caveat
The MAW12V1QWT has useful documented efficiency figures and a window design intended to preserve window operation, while independent reviewers report favorable noise and energy performance. But the model’s inclusion in the 2025 recall makes verified remedy status the first decision point—not an afterthought. For an owner, check the serial number and complete Midea’s current process. For a buyer, compare only a unit whose recall status has been verified, then weigh capacity, installation fit, efficiency, and warranty against alternatives.
