MFICL is not MidCap Financial Investment Corporation’s common stock. It is the company’s 8.00% notes due 2028; the common stock trades as MFIC. The latest quote captured here—$8.62 at the October 2, 2026 Nasdaq close—is for MFIC common shares, not MFICL notes. No current MFICL price was established.

What do the MFIC and MFICL tickers represent?

MidCap Financial Investment Corporation is an externally managed business development company (BDC) that provides senior debt solutions to middle-market companies. Its stated objective is current income and, to a lesser extent, capital appreciation. It primarily invests in senior secured loans originated by MidCap Financial, and Apollo Investment Management, L.P., an Apollo affiliate, is its investment adviser. SEC company filings

MFICL 8.00% notes due 2028 Listed on the Nasdaq Global Select Market. The ticker identifies debt, not common equity.

The two tickers are not interchangeable. A common-stock price does not tell you what the notes are trading for, and the notes’ coupon and maturity do not describe the stock’s dividend. The company says investors transact through a broker or its transfer agent; that is an access route, not an endorsement or investment recommendation.

What did MidCap Financial Investment report for the June 2026 quarter?

The latest quarter identified in the issuer materials ended June 30, 2026. Company-reported results showed net investment income of $0.40 per share, compared with $0.38 in the March 2026 quarter. That income figure is only one part of the picture: net asset value (NAV) declined to $13.37 per share from $13.82 at March 31, a 3.2% decrease. Second-quarter 2026 results

Why did NAV fall?

The company attributed the decline to portfolio losses driven by credit-related weakness concentrated in a limited number of positions. Income above the dividend and stock repurchases below NAV partly offset those losses. This is the company’s explanation of its reported quarter, not an independent assessment of the affected investments.

Portfolio scale, loan mix and leverage

  • At June 30, 2026, the company reported a $2.77 billion investment portfolio at fair value and 229 portfolio companies.
  • It said 97% of debt in its direct-origination portfolio was first lien and 100% was floating rate. Those percentages apply to the direct-origination portfolio, not necessarily every company asset.
  • Net leverage was 1.54x at quarter-end.

As a leveraged lender, MFIC is exposed to borrowers’ ability to repay and to changes in the value of its investments, alongside financing and capital-allocation decisions. Portfolio credit results and NAV therefore provide context that the common-stock quote alone cannot.

What happened with the dividend and share repurchases?

On August 5, 2026, the board declared a $0.31-per-share quarterly dividend, payable September 24 to holders of record September 8. The company said there is no assurance the board will continue declaring a base dividend of $0.31 per share. The declared payment is a past board decision, not a guarantee of future distributions. Dividend and earnings-release details

During the quarter, MFIC repurchased 2,755,221 shares at a weighted average price of $11.58, for a total cost of $31.9 million. The company said those purchases fully used the capacity under the then-existing repurchase program. Repurchases below NAV can affect per-share value, but they do not remove portfolio credit risk.

How should investors distinguish the notes from the common stock?

MFICL’s established identity is an 8.00% note due 2028; MFIC is common equity. Their security types differ, so their income terms, repayment risk and price behavior should not be conflated. The reviewed sources do not establish a current MFICL market price, yield, liquidity, or the full note terms. Do not infer those details from MFIC’s share quote or dividend.

The company’s chief executive and executive chairman, Tanner Powell, said on August 6, 2026: “Our net loss for the quarter reflected credit weakness in a limited number of positions. We believe that MFIC’s fee structure is one of the most attractive among listed BDCs which helps mitigate the impact of losses.” He also said capital-allocation decisions would be based on leverage and market conditions. These are management’s statements, not independent findings.
