Micron’s March 16, 2026 announcement was about a production milestone, not a first reveal: the company said its HBM4 36GB 12H, 192GB SOCAMM2 and 9650 PCIe Gen6 data-center SSD were in high-volume production. Micron positions HBM4 and SOCAMM2 for NVIDIA Vera Rubin systems and the 9650 for AI training and inference. The three products serve different jobs: accelerator memory, system memory and data-center storage.
What Micron announced
In its March 16, 2026 release, Micron said it had brought three products into high-volume production:
- HBM4 36GB 12H: stacked high-bandwidth memory designed for NVIDIA Vera Rubin systems.
- 192GB SOCAMM2: a low-power system-memory module; Micron described its broader SOCAMM2 capacity range as 48GB to 256GB.
- Micron 9650: a PCIe Gen6 data-center SSD that Micron positioned for AI workloads.
“High-volume production” is the milestone Micron reported; it does not by itself establish consumer retail availability or compatibility with a particular computer.
What Micron specifies for HBM4
Micron’s HBM4 product page lists a 2048-pin interface operating at speeds greater than 11.0 Gbps and bandwidth above 2.8 TB/s per stack. The company says this is more than double the bandwidth of the prior generation, comparing HBM4 12-high with HBM3E 12-high.

- Ideal for high speed, low power storage
- Gen 4x4 NVMe PCle performance
- Up to 6,000MB/s read, 4,000MB/s write
- Includes Acronis cloning software
- 5-year limited warranty
Micron also claims 20% better power efficiency for HBM4 12-high than HBM3E 12-high at similar speeds. These are Micron’s specifications and comparison, not independently measured benchmarks. The 36GB 12H designation refers to the product announced as in high-volume production in March.
What SOCAMM2 is and what the capacity claims mean
SOCAMM2 is system memory, distinct from HBM4’s stacked accelerator memory. Micron’s March announcement identified a 192GB module in high-volume production and a portfolio spanning 48GB to 256GB.

What the Micron 9650 SSD is designed to do
The 9650 is an enterprise/data-center PCIe Gen6 SSD, not a consumer drive announcement. Micron associated it with AI training and inference. In June, the company called it the world’s first commercially available PCIe Gen6 SSD. That company description does not establish retail listings, stock on consumer marketplaces or compatibility with a reader’s PC.

How the three products differ
| Product | Role | Micron’s stated context | Reported status |
|---|---|---|---|
| HBM4 36GB 12H | Stacked high-bandwidth memory | Designed for NVIDIA Vera Rubin; Micron specifies more than 2.8 TB/s per stack | High-volume production, March 16, 2026 |
| SOCAMM2 | Low-power system memory | 48GB–256GB portfolio; 256GB module compared by Micron with standard RDIMMs | 192GB in high-volume production, March 16, 2026 |
| 9650 PCIe Gen6 SSD | Data-center storage | AI training and inference | High-volume production, March 16, 2026; Micron called it commercially available in June |
These are complementary components, not alternatives in a direct product comparison: HBM4 supplies high-bandwidth memory, SOCAMM2 supplies system memory, and the 9650 provides storage. The releases do not establish an independent head-to-head evaluation across these different categories.

For enterprise system planners, the useful takeaway is that Micron reported production progress across memory and storage intended for AI platforms. A deployment decision still depends on the target platform and workload: system compatibility, required capacity and bandwidth, latency needs, power and availability. The cited announcements do not provide compatibility details for a particular system or verify consumer purchase options.
