Micron announced on December 3, 2025, that it would exit the Crucial consumer business worldwide. Consumer-channel shipments were scheduled to continue through the end of fiscal Q2 2026—February 2026—and Micron said it would keep providing warranty service and support for Crucial products. That shipment deadline has passed, but the announcement does not establish what products remain in stock today.

What Micron announced

Crucial was Micron Technology’s consumer-facing brand for products such as DRAM memory and solid-state drives (SSDs). Micron said it would end Crucial-branded consumer sales through retailers, e-tailers, and distributors worldwide. In its December 3, 2025 announcement, the company said consumer shipments would continue through the end of fiscal Q2 2026, which it described as February 2026.

Micron characterized Crucial as a brand with a 29-year history. The exit concerns its consumer business, not every Micron product or its memory manufacturing as a whole.

Why Micron says it is leaving the consumer market

Micron attributed the decision to growing demand for memory and storage in data centers as AI expands. Sumit Sadana, Micron’s executive vice president and chief business officer, said: “The AI-driven growth in the data center has led to a surge in demand for memory and storage. Micron has made the difficult decision to exit the Crucial consumer business in order to improve supply and support for our larger, strategic customers in faster-growing segments.”

That is Micron’s stated rationale, not a measured estimate of how the exit will affect retail prices or the total amount of memory available to consumers. The announcement does not show that Micron’s decision alone caused a particular price change or explain the full reasons RAM may cost more.

Crucial consumer products versus Micron’s continuing business

Micron said it would continue supporting sales of its Micron-branded enterprise products through commercial channels. Its FY2025 Form 10-K identifies Crucial SSDs and DRAM as consumer-market products, and reports data-center sales that included HBM, DDR5, DDR4, LPDDR5, and GDDR6 memory.

These categories and channels should not be read as a claim that all products share the same supply chain, or that Micron said Crucial consumer production would be converted into a particular enterprise product.

What Crucial owners should know about support

Micron said it would continue warranty service and support for Crucial products. This is a general company commitment; it does not guarantee that a specific replacement will be available or that every claim will be resolved in a particular way. Owners with a problem should use Micron’s Crucial support resources and check the warranty terms and claim requirements for their product.

What buyers should do now

Because Micron’s announced consumer-shipment endpoint has passed, buyers should check current listings rather than assume Crucial products are still being replenished or are in stock. The announcement does not establish present inventory, prices, or availability.

  • If you are considering Crucial RAM: verify that the memory type and form factor match your computer or motherboard, and check the supported capacity and configuration.
  • If you are considering a Crucial SSD: confirm the interface, physical size, and capacity supported by your device.
  • If a Crucial product is unavailable: compare alternatives against your device’s specifications, not just the brand or headline speed.
  • If you already own a Crucial product: Micron says warranty service and support will continue; consult the product-specific support and warranty information for next steps.

Will the exit make RAM or SSDs more expensive?

The announcement does not quantify any effect on consumer supply or prices. Micron’s explanation connects its decision to data-center demand and its strategic priorities, but that statement is not evidence that the Crucial exit by itself caused a specific retail price increase. Consumer pricing can’t be inferred from this announcement alone.
