Yes—if you want a durable, stylish wired in-ear monitor with lively detail and easy phone compatibility, the Meze Audio Rai Solo remains a compelling buy. Its single dynamic driver delivers a mildly V-shaped presentation with energetic bass, crisp treble and strong perceived detail. The trade-offs are a tuning that is not strictly neutral, a potentially tangle-prone cable and fit that depends heavily on your ear shape and tip choice.
What the Meze Rai Solo is
The Rai Solo is a universal-fit wired IEM with a stainless-steel shell, detachable MMCX cable and one UPM dynamic driver. Published specifications disagree on driver diameter: Headfonics identifies a 9.9 mm driver, while AudioReviews lists 9.2 mm. Both descriptions refer to the same single-driver design, so neither figure should be treated as an independently verified 2026 specification.
| Specification | Published detail |
|---|---|
| Driver | UPM single dynamic driver; 9.9 mm according to Headfonics, 9.2 mm according to AudioReviews |
| Impedance | 16 Ω (AudioReviews, 2021) |
| Sensitivity | 105±3 dB at 1 mW/1 kHz (AudioReviews, 2021) |
| Frequency range | 18 Hz–22 kHz (AudioReviews, 2021) |
| Connector | Detachable MMCX |
| Plug | 3.5 mm, L-shaped |
| Cable length | 1.3 m silver-plated copper cable |
| Warranty | Two years, according to AudioReviews |
The figures above come from product reviews rather than a current manufacturer specification sheet, and the published driver-size discrepancy is worth keeping in mind.

How the Rai Solo sounds
A lively, slightly V-shaped balance
Headfonics describes the Rai Solo as slightly V-shaped, with robust bass, sharp highs and a fairly crisp midrange. That means the earphones add excitement at the frequency extremes instead of aiming for a flat studio-monitor balance. Bass has more presence than a neutral reference, while treble adds edge and apparent detail.
#1 Best Overall
- SOUND THAT SPARKS EMOTION: The 10.8mm dynamic driver creates natural and balanced sound, accurate across all ranges. Lower tones are enhanced for an added touch of richness, while high notes remain crisp and clean. ALBA can vividly emphasize both the rain and the thunder in your favorite songs.
- BUILT FOR COMFORT: By preserving the Meze Audio design language, high levels of comfort, ergonomics, and noise isolation are assured. The combination of zinc alloy and anodized aluminum parts ensures a resilient build. Additionally, the shell feels precious due to the iridescent color finish, which gives the ALBA wired earphones the appearance of a lustrous pearl.
- RADIANT COMPATIBILITY: The Meze Audio custom-designed 3.5mm to USB-C adapter lets you connect your in-ear monitors to any music source that has a USB-C connector. Made from the same high-quality materials as the IEM cable, this custom-made adapter has a built-in DAC/AMP (Digital-to-Analog Converter) to ensure an immersive audio experience.
- PREMIUM BRAIDED CABLE: The 2-pin braided SPC 1.2m cable comes with a 3.5mm gold-plated jack termination, ensuring high durability, while not compromising on comfort.
- INCLUDED ACCESSORIES: The eco-leather pouch is a stylish and practical solution to keep your wired earbuds safe, and easily portable. Specially designed silicone ear tips help improve comfort and enhance noise isolation to let your music shine in any scenario. Four sizes included: S, M, L, and XL.
Midrange, imaging and detail
AudioReviews emphasizes midrange reproduction and calls the imaging “great.” Headfonics reports abundant microdetail and a clean, dynamic presentation. These are reviewer listening impressions, not controlled laboratory measurements, but they point to a coherent single-driver sound with clear placement of instruments and vocals.
Who will like the tuning
- Listeners who enjoy energetic pop, rock, electronic music and well-recorded acoustic material.
- People who want audible texture and separation without moving to a multi-driver hybrid design.
- Buyers who prefer a little extra bass and treble energy over strict neutrality.
If your priority is an uncolored reference response, the Rai Solo’s mild V-shape may be less suitable than a deliberately neutral IEM.
Fit, comfort and isolation
The stainless-steel earpieces have a distinctive shaped body and color-coded nozzles. AudioReviews found the shells comfortable and reports that the supplied double-flange tips provide decent isolation. The package also includes silicone tips in small, medium and large sizes, plus deeper-insertion double-flange tips.

- Start with the medium silicone tips and insert the earpieces with the cable routed naturally over or alongside your ears.
- Move to small or large tips if bass sounds thin, the shell shifts, or pressure builds.
- Try the double-flange tips when you need more isolation or a deeper seal.
- Use the option that seals securely without discomfort; individual ear anatomy determines the final result.
A good seal is important because an incomplete fit can reduce bass and make the treble seem disproportionately prominent. The shells’ substantial metal construction may feel premium, but their weight and shape will not suit every ear.

Can a phone drive the Rai Solo?
Yes, provided the phone has a normal 3.5 mm headphone output or you use a suitable USB-C or Lightning adapter with an analog headphone stage. At 16 Ω and 105±3 dB sensitivity, the Rai Solo is easy to drive from phones, laptops and portable players. You do not need a dedicated headphone amplifier for normal listening levels.
Volume capability is not the same as source quality: a noisy or poorly implemented adapter can still add hiss or distortion. The Rai Solo’s low impedance may make background noise more noticeable on some outputs, although the cited reviews do not establish a universal noise problem.
Build quality and everyday handling
Metal shells and detachable cable
The sintered stainless-steel housings feel substantial and contribute much of the Rai Solo’s premium character. The MMCX cable can be replaced if it fails, and the angled 3.5 mm plug is practical for portable use.

The cable’s weak points
AudioReviews praises the attention to detail but notes that the cable is prone to tangling. MMCX connectors can also rotate in their sockets. Rotation is not automatically a defect—many MMCX designs allow it—but it can make the cable feel less fixed during use. Store the cable loosely rather than tightly wrapping it around a player, and check that replacement cables use standard MMCX connectors before buying.

- Original replacement cable designed specifically for the Meze Audio 99 NEO but can also work for the 99Classics series.
- Detachable straight cable, 1.8m length, with built-in microphone and remote control for convenient call management and music control on the go.
- Gold-plated 3.5mm connectors encased in durable aluminum ensure reliable signal transmission and minimize signal degradation.
- Flexible and tangle-resistant Oxygen-Free Copper (OFC) cable with Kevlar fabric coating for enhanced durability and hassle-free use.

Price and value
Historical review prices were $249 in Headfonics’ 2020 review and $199 in AudioReviews’ 2021 review. Those figures are not verified 2026 street prices, so check the current seller price, warranty and return policy before purchasing.
Assess the Rai Solo against these factors rather than an old list price:
- Driver approach: one dynamic driver versus the hybrid designs common in the same broad market.
- Tuning: lively, mildly V-shaped energy versus a neutral target.
- Construction: weighty stainless-steel shells and a detachable MMCX cable.
- Fit: supplied silicone and double-flange options, with comfort varying by ear.
- Ownership cost: include replacement tips or a replacement cable if the originals do not suit your use.
Strengths and limitations
| Strengths | Limitations |
|---|---|
| Durable, premium-feeling stainless-steel housings | Not a strictly neutral tuning |
| Dynamic, clean sound with strong perceived detail | Included cable can tangle |
| Good imaging and clear midrange focus in reviewer impressions | MMCX connectors may rotate |
| Easy to drive from ordinary 3.5 mm devices | Fit and isolation vary with ear shape and tips |
| Detachable cable and two-year warranty reported by AudioReviews | Current street price is not established by the cited reviews |
Who should buy the Meze Rai Solo?
Buy it if you want a well-built, single-driver IEM with an engaging sound, useful detail and simple phone drivability, and you are comfortable with a non-neutral balance. It is especially attractive when the current price is competitive with newer single-dynamic models and the seller provides a reliable return policy.
Choose another IEM if you need a reference-neutral response, dislike heavier metal shells, require a permanently stable cable connection, or cannot tolerate experimenting with ear tips to get a seal.
Verdict
The Meze Rai Solo earns its “punching above its weight” reputation through a combination of substantial metal construction, lively single-driver sound, convincing imaging and effortless drivability. Headfonics called it unusual for its class, while AudioReviews praised its design, build and midrange-focused imaging. Those conclusions are subjective review impressions, not laboratory proof, but they align on the Rai Solo’s central appeal: a polished, entertaining wired IEM that does not demand expensive amplification. Buy with the understanding that its tuning is mildly V-shaped, the cable needs careful handling and the best comfort depends on finding the right tip.
