Meta’s Muse had reached an estimated five million downloads by September 30, 2026, according to Sensor Tower data reported by 9to5Mac. The milestone came as Meta expanded promotion of the AI assistant across its own apps and other advertising channels—but the available figures show a coincidence in timing, not proof that advertising alone drove downloads.
How many downloads does Meta Muse have?
Sensor Tower Senior Insights Analyst Kara Lee projected that Muse had crossed five million downloads by September 30, 2026, 9to5Mac reported. This is an analytics-firm estimate, not a company-audited count. 9to5Mac said Muse, which launched in the United States on September 8, had held the top spot in the U.S. App Store for 12 days as of its report. 9to5Mac’s report attributes both the milestone and advertising figures below to Sensor Tower.
Earlier estimates varied by analytics firm
Figures published before the five-million projection differed substantially. TechCrunch reported that estimates available September 24 put Muse at more than 3.4 million downloads according to Sensor Tower, 4.3 million according to Apptopia, and roughly 2.3 million according to Appfigures. These are provider estimates, not verified totals; the firms’ estimates can differ in timing and method, and may lag real-world adoption.

The estimates are useful as a snapshot of early launch scale, but they should not be combined into a single count or treated as an audited measure. TechCrunch’s September 25 report discusses the differences and the promotion surrounding the launch.

Did Meta advertise Muse heavily?
Sensor Tower said Meta began ramping up Muse advertising on September 16, 2026. That day, downloads rose 73% compared with the previous day, according to the figures quoted by 9to5Mac. The timing is consistent with promotion contributing to awareness, but it does not establish how many downloads advertising caused or rule out other factors.
What the ad figures measure
- Meta house ads: Sensor Tower estimated Muse accounted for up to 50% of Meta’s daily house-ad impressions from September 14 through September 27. This is Muse’s share of impressions within Meta’s own promotional inventory, not its share of all advertising and not a dollar-spend figure.
- Broader brand ranking: Sensor Tower placed Muse among the top 15 U.S. brands by ad impressions during September 21–27. The report gives no dollar amount for the campaign.
- All ad impressions: In separate earlier reporting, Sensor Tower estimated that Muse represented 6% of total ad impressions from launch through September 19. This uses a broader denominator than Muse’s share of Meta house-ad impressions.
TechCrunch reported that Sensor Tower detected Meta house ads for Muse beginning September 9, and that Muse accounted for most house promotions across Meta properties within ten days. It also reported placements on mobile ad networks, Reddit, TikTok and YouTube. The two impression-share figures describe different measures and time windows; neither reveals the campaign’s cost or proves its incremental effect on downloads.

How quickly did Muse reach five million downloads?
Sensor Tower’s comparison, as reported by 9to5Mac on September 30, put Muse’s time to five million downloads ahead of several AI apps: ChatGPT took 56 days, Grok 103 days and Claude 492 days, by the same firm’s estimates. These are comparisons of estimated time to a download milestone, not measures of usage or product quality.
The launch conditions were not identical. 9to5Mac noted that Grok and Claude were iOS-exclusive during their first five days, while Muse launched on both iOS and Android and was available in the United States and Canada. Platform reach and geography can affect how quickly an app accumulates downloads, so the comparison is best read as an early scale indicator rather than a like-for-like performance test.

What is Meta Muse, and where is it available?
Muse is Meta’s personal AI agent, offered as a separate app and through WhatsApp. At launch, the Associated Press described it as available to adults in the United States; by September 30, 9to5Mac reported iOS and Android availability in the United States and Canada. Availability can change, so those locations reflect the cited reports rather than a guarantee of current access everywhere.
Meta says a user can give Muse a goal and have it develop a plan and coordinate work. In a description reproduced by the Associated Press, Meta said the agent can open a browser, fill out forms and negotiate on a user’s behalf. These are descriptions of intended product capabilities, not independent evidence of task-completion rates. The AP also reported Meta’s claim that Muse runs in a dedicated virtual machine containing the agent and user data; that is the company’s account of its security design, not an independent verification.

What does the small-business expansion add?
On September 29, Axios reported that Meta announced Muse for Small Business. It described connections to Asana, Canva, Dropbox, Figma, Intuit QuickBooks, Lovable, Notion, Shopify, Slack, Stripe and Zoom. Reported uses included reviewing sales and campaign performance, managing cash flow and inventory, drafting customer communications, and creating ads and other content.

Axios reported that most needs could be handled free, with $20- and $100-per-month subscription tiers subject to usage and token limits. These details reflect Axios’s September 29 reporting; they should not be taken as confirmation of current availability or pricing, and Muse for Small Business was described as an expansion of the assistant rather than a separate app. Meta VP of AI products Vishal Shah told Axios that about one-third of early Muse users were connecting some type of business account. That is a company executive’s characterization, not an independently measured adoption rate. Axios’s report lists the connectors and describes the expansion.
What five million downloads do—and do not—show
Downloads indicate that people installed Muse; they do not establish how many people continued using it, how often they return, whether it completes tasks reliably, or how many users convert to paid subscriptions. The September 2026 reports cited here do not provide verified active-user or retention figures for the milestone, task-success rates, a dollar amount for Muse advertising, or a causal estimate of advertising’s effect on downloads.
The clearest reading is that Muse achieved substantial early distribution while Meta gave it unusually visible promotion across its own properties and external channels. Whether that reach becomes sustained use or paid business adoption is a separate question that download estimates and ad impressions cannot answer.
