Sensor Tower estimated that Meta’s Muse reached five million downloads by September 30, 2026, according to 9to5Mac. Meta has not publicly confirmed that total. The estimate puts Muse at the five-million mark about 22 days after its September 8 launch, faster than the comparable Sensor Tower estimates for ChatGPT, Grok and Claude—but differences in platform availability and measurement mean this is not proof that Muse is the most-used or fastest-growing AI app overall.
How many downloads does Meta Muse have?
As of September 30, 2026, Sensor Tower estimated that Muse had passed five million downloads. 9to5Mac attributed the projection to Kara Lee, a Sensor Tower senior insights analyst. This is an independent analytics estimate, not a download total reported or audited by Meta.
Third-party firms produced materially different numbers only days earlier. TechCrunch’s September 25 snapshot cited more than 3.4 million downloads from Sensor Tower, 4.3 million from Apptopia and roughly 2.3 million from Appfigures. These services use their own methodologies, may revise estimates as data arrives and can lag actual adoption. The figures should not be averaged or presented as confirmed counts.
Did Muse reach five million downloads faster than ChatGPT?
According to the Sensor Tower comparison reported by 9to5Mac, Muse reached the estimated five-million threshold in about 22 days. The same estimate series put the milestone at 56 days for ChatGPT, 103 days for Grok and 492 days for Claude.

The comparison measures speed to one download threshold, not active users, retention, engagement, revenue or assistant quality. It also is not a perfectly like-for-like launch test: Muse was available on iOS and Android in the United States and Canada during the later estimate period, while 9to5Mac noted that Grok and Claude were iOS-only for their first five days. Geography and store coverage can substantially affect early download velocity.
Why the estimates differ
Different measurement models
Sensor Tower, Apptopia and Appfigures infer downloads from their own app-intelligence data. Their September 25 estimates ranged from roughly 2.3 million to 4.3 million, demonstrating that a precise public total cannot be established from these reports alone.

Promotion can affect discovery
TechCrunch reported that Sensor Tower data attributed six percent of ad impressions from Muse’s launch through September 19 to Muse advertisements. That is a share of ad impressions, not the percentage of downloads caused by advertising, and it does not show how many installs were paid, organic or driven by Meta’s cross-platform promotion.

Availability changed after launch
Launch-day reporting from the Associated Press described Muse as available in the United States for people aged 18 and over. By the September 25 download coverage, TechCrunch reported availability in the United States and Canada on iOS and Android. Because access expanded and reports refer to different dates, availability should be checked before using the figures for a current market comparison.

What is Meta Muse?
Meta introduced Muse on September 8, 2026, describing it as a personal AI agent powered by Muse Spark. Meta says users can give Muse a goal, have it develop a plan, browse the web, fill in forms and continue working after the app is closed. The company also says Muse can be used in its own app or through WhatsApp.
Meta’s announcement says, “Once a person shares a goal with Muse, it helps them develop a personalized plan and coordinate their time and resources, then advances the work on its own.” It also says, “It can open a browser, fill out forms, and negotiate on their behalf.” Those are Meta’s capability descriptions, not results from an independent benchmark or audit.

Approval controls and the Secure VM
According to Meta, Muse asks for approval before sensitive actions such as sending email or making a purchase, runs in a dedicated Muse Secure VM and keeps an audit trail. Meta separately describes a Sentinel agent that approves internet access. These controls may reduce accidental actions, but the launch announcement does not independently validate their effectiveness or eliminate the risks of delegating tasks to an agent.
What does Muse mean for privacy?
Meta says users can choose which connected apps Muse may access and can opt out of having their interactions used to train models. Axios’s September 28 reporting presented these statements alongside unresolved privacy concerns and a tentative account of using the product. Users should therefore treat the controls as company claims, review each connection and approval prompt, and avoid assuming that a Secure VM or audit trail makes sensitive data risk-free.

Is Muse being extended to small businesses?
Axios reported on September 29 that Meta was extending the consumer Muse experience toward small-business work. The report named connectors for Asana, Canva, Dropbox, Figma, Intuit QuickBooks, Lovable, Notion, Shopify, Slack, Stripe and Zoom.
Axios also reported that most use would be free, with paid tiers of $20 and $100 per month. Those prices, connector availability and product boundaries were reported at that date and may change; they should not be treated as a current universal price list without checking Meta’s latest terms.
What the five-million milestone does—and does not—show
- It shows strong early install momentum: an estimated five million downloads in roughly 22 days is a notable launch result.
- It does not establish a confirmed total: the number comes from Sensor Tower, not Meta.
- It does not prove market leadership: downloads are different from monthly active users, retention, usage time and revenue.
- It does not prove a better assistant: the estimate says nothing about answer quality, reliability, safety or task-completion rates.
- It is not a clean universal speed record: competitor platform availability and launch geography differed.
Bottom line for readers tracking Muse
Muse appears to have had an unusually fast start. The most defensible wording is that Sensor Tower estimated more than five million downloads by September 30, 2026, in reporting by 9to5Mac. Calling that a record is reasonable only within the cited comparison of time to five million downloads for Muse, ChatGPT, Grok and Claude—and only with the platform and geography caveats included. It should not be read as confirmation that Muse has the largest active audience, the best AI agent or the strongest long-term retention.
