Meta’s Muse Charm is a reported plan for a keychain-like way to access its Muse AI agent—not an announced smartwatch. It may hint at Meta’s broader interest in wearable AI, but the available announcements and reporting do not confirm a Meta watch or a 2027 launch. The smartwatch connection is an inference drawn from Muse Charm, Meta’s AI glasses, and its wrist-worn control band.
What is Meta’s “AI Tamagotchi”?
The nickname refers to Muse Charm, a keychain-like device Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg described as containing the “whole Muse experience.” The idea, according to the Associated Press, is to let people reach a personal AI agent without a phone, computer, or smart glasses. “Tamagotchi” is an analogy for a small, personal digital companion. The reported pitch is not a virtual pet that needs feeding or care: Muse is presented as an AI agent that can converse and help carry out tasks. AP described real-time voice conversations and video chats, and reported demonstrations involving travel planning, restaurant reservations, grocery orders, and other tasks. These are reported capabilities and demonstrations, not evidence of dependable performance in everyday use. Why does it look like a smartwatch preview?
The resemblance is about the direction of the interface, not the shape of the device. Muse Charm suggests Meta sees value in a dedicated wearable access point for an AI agent. A small device that is readily at hand could make it easier to start a prompt or conversation than pulling out a phone. That makes the concept relevant to the same question a smartwatch answers: what useful computing can be available on your body with little effort?

Meta has also tried other wearable interactions. Its AI glasses put cameras, microphones, and audio in eyewear, while Meta Ray-Ban Display pairs a display-equipped pair of glasses with a wrist-worn band that detects muscle activity for control. Together, these products make a future watch-based interface conceivable. They do not establish that Meta is building one, or that Muse Charm is a step on a confirmed watch roadmap.

Different ways to reach an AI agent

The sources reviewed do not establish that Muse Charm has a screen, health sensors, conventional watch functions, or a watch operating system. Nor do they confirm a Meta smartwatch announcement or a 2027 release. Until Meta or reliable reporting supplies that evidence, “smartwatch preview for 2027” is best read as a forecast about Meta’s wearable-AI direction, not a product fact.

Privacy, cloud processing, and accessibility
AI wearables can involve more than the device itself: some tasks may depend on remote processing. Meta Engineering says simple directions, such as calls or text responses, can run on-device, while more advanced personalized features need larger models and cloud processing. The strongest evidence for a real smartwatch roadmap would be a direct Meta announcement or credible reporting with concrete product details. For Muse Charm itself, the practical questions are whether Meta confirms the reported holiday timing, names a price, explains how the device is controlled, and clarifies what data it collects and where processing happens. Until those details are public, the watch connection remains an informed possibility rather than a launch promise.
