The Xbox-branded Meta Quest 3S is not a headset that is about to launch: Xbox announced the limited-edition bundle on June 24, 2025, and said it was available that day. It pairs Meta’s Quest hardware with Xbox styling and access to Xbox Cloud Gaming on a virtual screen. That makes it a partnership milestone—not evidence that Microsoft has built its own VR headset or launched a new Xbox platform.
What is the Meta Quest 3S Xbox Edition?
It is a limited-edition Meta Quest 3S bundle with Xbox-themed hardware and accessories. Xbox’s June 24, 2025 announcement listed a U.S. launch price of $399.99 and described a custom 128GB headset in Xbox Carbon Black and Velocity Green, matching Touch Plus controllers, a pre-paired limited-edition Xbox Wireless Controller, a Meta Quest Elite Strap, and three-month trials of Meta Horizon+ and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. Xbox’s launch announcement gives those launch terms; they do not establish today’s price, stock, or whether the trials remain available.
At launch, Xbox named Meta.com and Best Buy in the United States, and Argos and EE in the United Kingdom as retailers. Xbox called the quantities “extremely limited.” Current inventory and resale availability are not established here, so check retailers directly rather than treating the announcement as a current offer.

The Quest runs the Xbox app, which streams cloud-playable games to a large virtual display. The game is streamed rather than running as native Xbox console hardware inside the headset. Xbox describes cloud saves for cross-device progression and lists Quest controllers, an Xbox Wireless Controller, and an Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 as controller options. What you need
- A supported Meta Quest headset and a compatible controller.
- The Xbox app installed on the headset.
- High-speed internet. Xbox recommends 5GHz Wi-Fi and 20 Mbps or higher for cloud gaming on VR headsets; that is Xbox’s guidance, not an independent performance test.
- An active Game Pass subscription for most cloud games. Xbox notes that exceptions exist, so check the requirements for a specific game.
Xbox lists Quest 3S, Quest 3, Quest Pro, and Quest 2 as supported. The Xbox Edition is therefore not required to use Xbox Cloud Gaming on Quest. Game and service availability can vary by time, region, subscription plan, and platform. Xbox also cautions that cloud-streamed games may have limitations involving resolution, audio, saves, purchases, companion-app support, and accessories.
At launch, Xbox said Ultimate members could stream select cloud-playable games they owned, including some outside the Game Pass Ultimate catalog, and pointed to a collection of more than 100 supported “Stream Your Own Game” titles. That was a June 2025 service statement, not a guarantee about the current catalog or plan terms; consult Xbox’s live game list before subscribing or buying a game for streaming.

Does the Xbox Edition make sense compared with another Quest?
For Xbox cloud gaming, Xbox’s compatibility list includes several Quest models, so the special edition’s distinction is the themed bundle rather than exclusive access to the service. The launch bundle adds an Xbox Wireless Controller and Elite Strap, alongside trial subscriptions. Whether that package is worthwhile depends on what you already own and on the bundle’s actual price and stock when you shop.

- Choosing games or a subscription? Check whether the titles you want are available for cloud play in your region and whether your plan includes them.
Is this Microsoft’s next big VR play?
The product is evidence of Microsoft and Meta extending their existing collaboration into an Xbox-branded consumer bundle. Microsoft described a broader partnership in October 2022 that included Teams, Microsoft 365 apps, Windows 365 plans, enterprise device management, and exploration of Xbox Cloud Gaming on Quest. The 2025 edition gave the gaming portion a limited-edition physical product. Microsoft’s partnership announcement provides the earlier context.

What the available announcements do not establish is equally important: they do not show that Microsoft is developing its own VR headset, disclose sales or adoption results for the edition, or prove that this is a new major gaming strategy. The defensible conclusion is narrower: Xbox is extending cloud gaming to Meta headsets and using a limited-edition bundle to give that partnership a physical, Xbox-branded expression.
