If Meta Conversions API events do not match the corresponding browser Pixel events, first compare the two records for the same conversion—not just their totals. Check that both use the same event name and event ID for deduplication, then verify their destination, timestamp, payload, and delivery. Event Match Quality is a separate question: it concerns whether Meta can associate event information with a person, not whether browser and server copies are counted as one event.
What “events don’t match” can mean
The phrase can describe two different problems. Browser and server copies of one action may fail to deduplicate, potentially causing the same action to be represented more than once. Separately, a server event may arrive but contain customer information that does not help Meta associate it with a person. The first is an event-identity issue; the second is a matching-quality issue. Diagnose them separately.
The checks below are a troubleshooting checklist, not an official Meta list of six causes. Start with a single controlled conversion and compare its browser and server records.

1. The browser and server event IDs differ
For an action sent through both the Pixel and Conversions API, inspect the browser-side eventID and server-side event_id. The archived Meta Server-Side API schema describes the browser event ID as needing to match the corresponding server event ID for deduplication. Adobe’s Meta conversion extension documentation likewise describes using shared event identity fields for browser and server events.

Generate the ID once for the action and pass that same value to both implementations. If each side creates its own ID, Meta may not recognize the records as copies of one event.
2. The event names differ
Compare the event name on the browser record with event_name in the server payload. They should describe the same action and use the same name for the paired records. The archived schema and Adobe’s implementation guidance both identify event name alongside ID in the browser/server deduplication pattern. A purchase represented by different names on each side is not a reliable matching pair.

3. The two copies are routed to different destinations
Check that the Pixel event and server request are associated with the intended same destination data source. A correct event ID cannot resolve an implementation that sends the browser and server copies to different assets. Review the Pixel configuration, server integration mapping, and request destination; exact interface labels and paths can change, so confirm them in the current Meta interface.

Inspect event_time and confirm that the integration sends the action’s actual time as a Unix timestamp in seconds, not milliseconds. Also check timezone conversion and whether the timestamp reflects when the customer acted rather than when a delayed job eventually sent the event.

The archived schema says events more than seven days old are rejected, but that document is not current confirmation of Meta’s live limit. Check Meta’s current developer documentation before relying on that threshold or coding around it.
5. The server event payload is incomplete or invalid
Compare the outgoing JSON with the integration’s request and response logs, then inspect the event in Test Events. The archived schema lists event_name, event_time, user_data, and action_source as required event properties. Treat that as a diagnostic starting point, not a guarantee of today’s complete schema: confirm current field and format requirements in Meta’s live documentation.

A request that is malformed, missing a required value, or rejected by the endpoint is a delivery or validation problem—not a deduplication problem. Use the response and integration logs to determine whether Meta accepted the event before investigating how it pairs with a browser copy.

Event Match Quality concerns the information available to associate an event with a person. Deduplication uses the identity of the event—particularly the shared event name and ID in the browser/server implementation. A server event can arrive yet be hard to associate with a person; conversely, customer information does not make two copies of an action deduplicate if their event identities do not match.

Adobe’s guidance discusses sending accepted customer information parameters with server events to support matching. Send only accurate information that your implementation is authorized to use, and follow the consent and privacy requirements that apply to your jurisdiction. Do not add data merely to chase a score, and do not assume a particular score guarantees better ad performance.

- Trigger one controlled conversion and record the event name and unique event ID generated for that action.
- Inspect the browser Pixel event. Note its event name and
eventID. - Inspect the corresponding server request. Compare
event_nameandevent_id, and reviewevent_time,action_source, and applicableuser_data. - Confirm that both records are routed to the intended same data source and carry the shared deduplication identity.
- Open Meta Events Manager’s Test Events view and check whether the server event arrives. Compare its details with the browser event. The older Meta integration playbook describes Test Events as a way to validate receipt and deduplication; current interface wording may differ.
- If the individual records arrive and pair as expected but aggregate reporting still differs, investigate reporting windows, attribution settings, and processing delays as separate follow-up areas. They are not established by the implementation sources cited here as specific causes of event deduplication failure.
What to do when the records look correct
Keep a copy of the specific browser event, server payload, endpoint response, and Test Events result for the same action. If the server request is accepted and its event name and ID align with the browser record at the intended destination, the basic delivery and deduplication checks are satisfied; investigate aggregate reporting separately rather than changing customer data or event identity at random.
