Meta broke ground on a data center campus in Lebanon, Indiana, on February 11, 2026. The company says the campus is designed for 1 gigawatt (GW) of compute capacity once operational, with more than $10 billion in planned investment. That is a future design capacity—not a claim that the site is already running at 1 GW.
What Meta is building in Lebanon
Meta describes the Lebanon project as its second Indiana data center site. The planned campus is roughly four million square feet and is intended to support both artificial intelligence workloads and Meta’s core products. The company’s February 11, 2026 announcement gives the investment figure as more than $10 billion.
Meta uses “compute capacity” to mean the processing power available to run workloads—the work servers and chips can perform at a given time. In its April 2026 explanation, Meta says Lebanon is designed for 1 GW of capacity once operational. The figure should not be read as the campus’s current electricity consumption or measured operating output.

Meta’s figures are projections and commitments, not independently verified results. The company’s announcement and community-investment details describe the following:
#1 Best Overall
- Save valuable floor space: 6U wall mount server cabinet Dimensions: 13.78" H x21.65" W x17.72" D.Maximum mounting depth is 14.2"
- Keep critical network equipment secure: glass door and side panels are lockable to prevent unauthorized access. Front door can be installed on either side of the front of the cabinet to satisfy your door swing orientation preference
- Easy equipment configuration: Fully adjustable mounting rails and numbered U positions, with square holes for easy equipment mounting with top and bottom punch-out panels for easy cable access
- Durability: Made of high quality cold rolled steel holds up to 110lb (50kg) (Easy Assembly Required)
- PCI & HIPPA and EIA/ECA-310-E compliant
- Construction: More than 4,000 construction jobs at peak, according to Meta.
- Ongoing operations: Approximately 300 operational jobs, according to Meta.
- Public improvements: More than $120 million toward water infrastructure and other public improvements. Meta separately specifies more than $75 million for public water and wastewater infrastructure and approximately $45 million for public road improvements in its project fact sheet.
- Household assistance: $1 million annually for 20 years in energy-bill assistance, plus emergency water-bill support for approximately 500 families.
- Water restoration: A project expected to restore 200 million gallons each year for ten years.
Meta’s data center locations page also lists Lebanon as a 2026 groundbreaking project and repeats the company’s investment, peak construction workforce, and operational-job estimates.
Energy, cooling, and water plans
Meta says it will match 100% of the data center’s energy use with clean energy and pursue LEED Gold certification once the campus is operational. These are company commitments and a certification goal, not reported operating results.
The company says the design will use closed-loop liquid cooling that recirculates water and will use zero water for a majority of the year. It also says it will restore 100% of water consumed in Lebanon to local watersheds. The project fact sheet describes additional planned measures: native landscaping to reduce irrigation, on-site rainwater capture and infiltration, water-saving fixtures, and revitalization of part of the nearby Deer Creek corridor. Meta’s materials do not report measured energy sourcing, water use, or environmental performance from an operating campus.

Community programs and project partners
Meta says it will support a Boone County workforce-development program for students in three school districts through the Boone County Career Collaborative. The company also identifies energy-bill assistance through the Boone REMC Community Fund, emergency water assistance through The Caring Center, and a community grants program it says is forthcoming.
Meta’s announcement names Governor Mike Braun, Mayor Matt Gentry, the Boone Economic Development Corporation, Indiana Economic Development Corporation, Boone County Chamber, Boone Power, Wabash Valley Power Alliance, The Caring Center, Mortenson, Turner Construction, and Faith Technologies among project partners. This is not presented as a complete construction roster. HOCHTIEF’s February 13, 2026 release confirms Turner Construction was selected as one of the contractors. Turner Managing Director Ben Kaplan said the company would work with Meta to deliver the project and support the Lebanon community.
What the 1 GW figure does—and does not—say
Meta’s April 2026 capacity explainer says its Lebanon, Richland Parish, El Paso, and New Albany facilities are each planned for at least 1 GW after construction. Those are company-reported capacity plans. They are not a like-for-like comparison of electricity use, current operating load, or measured output.

For a meaningful comparison between data center announcements, look at the same measures for each project: planned capacity, investment, campus area, peak construction workforce, permanent jobs, public-infrastructure commitments, and whether environmental figures describe design goals or measured performance.
What has not been established yet
The cited project materials do not give a firm completion or opening date. They also do not establish independently verified job totals, actual energy sourcing, measured water consumption, or realized environmental impacts. Until those results are reported, the capacity, jobs, spending, and environmental benefits should be described as Meta’s plans, estimates, or commitments.
