You can build a vision assistant by connecting Meta’s glasses to a mobile app through Meta’s Device Access Toolkit, using Flutter for the app experience, and sending images to Google’s Gemini API. Meta documents its native iOS and Android integration; Flutter support in the sources covered here comes from a third-party bridge, not an official Meta Flutter SDK. Start with a single captured image, then add Gemini Live if the assistant needs repeated visual context.
What the system consists of
This is a mobile-app integration, not a direct glasses-to-Gemini connection. The glasses provide camera and other device capabilities; Meta’s Device Access Toolkit connects an iOS or Android app to the glasses; and the app sends image input to Gemini. Meta describes this toolkit as a way to extend an app onto AI glasses, including display glasses. See Meta’s Device Access Toolkit overview and Meta Wearables Developer Center.
For Flutter, keep the distinction between the supported native integration and the cross-platform layer clear: Meta documents iOS and Android app integration, while the Flutter bridge identified here is community tooling. A bridge can expose native SDK functions to Dart, but its existence does not mean Meta maintains or endorses it.
Check access and hardware before you build
Begin with Meta’s current toolkit setup guide and verify that your glasses model, country, developer setup, and required capabilities are supported. Meta says full toolkit capabilities are available only in supported countries; access can vary, so do not assume every glasses model or region offers the same camera, audio, or display features. Consult Meta’s Wearables FAQ for current availability and setup details.

Meta’s developer article dated April 1, 2026, also described a Mock Device Kit for simulated-device testing and said the SDK was still under development at that time. Those statements are dated rather than a guarantee of present feature status. Check the current documentation for the SDK version, mock-device availability, and feature support before relying on them: Meta Horizon OS Developers.
Choose the Flutter integration boundary
Use Flutter for screens, session state, and product logic. Keep Meta SDK calls, permissions, device connection, and camera callbacks behind a small native interface. This limits platform-specific details to the bridge rather than spreading them throughout the Dart application.

A third-party Flutter project identified in the sources says it links Meta’s native iOS and Android SDKs and exposes functions such as registration, device state, streaming, and photo capture. Treat that as a community option, not an official SDK. Before adopting it, inspect its maintenance, supported toolkit versions, platform parity, and handling of permissions and device lifecycle: Flutter bridge project.

Build a one-image assistant first
A still-image request is the simplest end-to-end milestone: capture one frame from the glasses, send it with a question, and display or speak the response. It tests camera access, image encoding, API authentication, and response handling without adding a persistent connection or continuous frame management.
- Request camera access and capture an image. Use the toolkit’s supported flow for the connected glasses and handle permission denial or device disconnection in the app.
- Prepare the image for Gemini. Google documents image input through inline data, URLs, or the File API. Use a supported representation and keep image handling aligned with your privacy and data policies.
- Ask a focused visual question. For example, ask what is visible or request a concise caption. Gemini’s image guide covers visual question answering and image captioning: Gemini image understanding.
- Present the result. Start with the phone screen. Add glasses audio or display output only if the connected model and toolkit support the relevant capability.
This sequence is an engineering recommendation, not a performance claim. It gives you a manageable way to validate each part before you add a live conversation.

Add Gemini Live for repeated visual context
For an assistant that needs to respond as the user looks around, Gemini Live provides a bidirectional real-time API over WebSockets, with audio, video, and text input and native audio output. In Google’s documented setup, video is sent as individual image blobs such as JPEG or PNG, with a maximum rate of one frame per second. It is not an unrestricted camera-stream interface. See Gemini Live setup.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsHave the app sample frames at the documented rate and define backpressure behavior: if a frame is still being handled, do not build an unbounded queue of newer camera images. Also plan for connection setup, interruption, reconnection, and ending a session when the user stops the assistant.

Google documents server-to-server and client-to-server connection approaches in its Gemini Live API overview. A server intermediary can keep credentials and policy enforcement under your application’s control, but adds a backend hop. A client-to-server approach can avoid routing media through that extra hop, while requiring careful credential and access design. Choose based on privacy, latency, and operational requirements; these are architectural tradeoffs, not measured outcomes.

| Approach | Best fit | Tradeoff |
|---|---|---|
| Single captured image | One-off questions such as “What am I looking at?” | Simple request flow, but no continuing visual context. Google image guide. |
| Gemini Live with sampled frames | Conversational help that needs repeated context from the current view | Requires WebSocket session and frame-sampling management; documented video input is limited to one frame per second. Google Live setup. |
| Uploaded video understanding | Questions about an existing recording or event over time | Not equivalent to low-latency live assistance. Static processing samples at one frame per second by default and may miss fast movement. Google video understanding. |
| Native iOS or Android app | Direct use of Meta’s documented toolkit path | Requires separate native application work if you are not using a cross-platform layer. Meta toolkit overview. |
| Flutter with a bridge | Reusing a Flutter app and UI across platforms | The bridge identified here is third-party; verify maintenance, toolkit coverage, and behavior on both platforms. Flutter bridge project. |
Understand the limits of video input
Gemini Live’s sampled images and uploaded-video analysis solve different problems. Live frames provide recurring context during an interaction; uploaded-video understanding is for a recorded clip. Google’s default static-video sampling of one frame per second can miss quick motion or scene changes, so do not treat the result as frame-accurate tracking.
Model names, account requirements, availability, usage limits, costs, and data-handling terms can change. Check Google’s current Gemini API documentation for the model and account you plan to use rather than assuming those details from an example. The integration guidance here does not establish a particular price, retention policy, latency, battery impact, accuracy level, or reliability.
