Meadow is a small, deliberately restricted smartphone designed to go along with your regular phone—not necessarily replace it. It keeps selected practical tools, such as maps, calls, texts, music, a camera, Uber, and location sharing, while leaving out social media, general web browsing, feeds, and an app store. It makes most sense for outings when you want fewer reasons to reach for your main phone but still need a few smartphone conveniences.
What Meadow is—and what it is not
Meadow is best understood as a companion phone. You can take it on a walk, to a concert, or on another outing while leaving your primary smartphone at home or tucked away. Its purpose is to retain a chosen set of useful functions without offering the open-ended browsing and feeds of a conventional smartphone.

That distinction is intentional. Meadow’s founder, Shreyas Narlanka, told TechCrunch in a September 25, 2026 hands-on report: “I knew there were going to be times where I needed my phone. I didn’t want a full replacement.” He described the goal as keeping services such as streaming while excluding social media and browsing. This is a product design choice, not evidence that Meadow treats anxiety or improves mental health.
Which apps and functions does Meadow include?
Meadow’s current product page lists Maps, Spotify, Calling, Camera, Texting, Apple Music, Uber, and Location Sharing. There is no app store, so you cannot treat it as an unrestricted Android phone and install any app you want. TechCrunch’s September 2026 report also describes Strava, ticket scanning, voice memos, notes, and other utilities; the available selection may change with software updates, so check the live Meadow product page for the current list.

The practical test is whether Meadow supports your essentials. Maps, music, ride-hailing, and location sharing are named by the manufacturer, but anyone who relies on a particular messaging service, work app, transit app, or ticketing workflow should confirm that it is available before buying.
Can you use Meadow without your iPhone?
You can use Meadow as a standalone device for the functions it supports, but it does not inherit your regular phone line. Meadow provides a new number powered by T-Mobile, and the number is assigned based on the address you provide. The manufacturer says calls and texts from people outside your contacts are blocked, except 911. That can make Meadow less useful for staying reachable by everyone who normally contacts you.
In TechCrunch’s September 25, 2026 review, reporter Amanda Silberling carried her iPhone as a backup. She used Meadow to summon an Uber, stream Apple Music, and scan a concert ticket, but noted that a separate number could mean missing group-chat chatter. She suggested setting iPhone Driving Focus to let contacts know when she was out with Meadow. That is one reviewer’s experience, not a guarantee of how every outing or app will work.

Meadow’s camera and photo workflow differs from a typical smartphone. In TechCrunch’s September 2026 hands-on, Silberling said she could not review pictures on Meadow itself and accessed them later using her primary smartphone. The manufacturer describes photos, workouts, and notes syncing over Wi-Fi to its cloud, with downloads available through the Meadow site. Those accounts describe different access routes; check the current software and service instructions for the exact workflow on your device.
Silberling found the camera suitable for daytime snapshots but poor for concert photography. This is a single reviewer’s assessment, not a camera test across conditions. Android Authority’s 2026 coverage lists a 13-megapixel ultrawide camera, but megapixels alone do not establish image quality.
How much does Meadow cost?
As listed on Meadow’s official page on October 3, 2026, service plans cost $15 per month for 1 GB of data, $25 per month for 5 GB, or $35 per month for unlimited data. The subscription includes the Meadow number, data, and cloud services such as maps, photo storage, and location sharing. These are manufacturer-published current plan terms, not independently audited billing terms; confirm the live official page before subscribing.
After cancellation, the manufacturer says you have 45 days to resubscribe before your Meadow number is recycled. The phone’s purchase price is separate from the monthly service. Android Authority reported a $399 preorder promotion and $449 expected retail price in 2026; Notebookcheck’s March 24, 2026 launch report likewise listed $399 preorder and $449 retail, with deliveries then expected in June. Those are dated launch-period figures, not confirmation of today’s checkout price or delivery timing.

Meadow’s current product information says the phone is certified for sale in the US and its eSIM works on US towers. It is therefore not presented as a service for use outside the United States. Check the manufacturer’s latest coverage and availability details if you live near a border or expect to travel.
Battery, size, and headphones
Meadow says its battery usually lasts a full day of normal use and recommends bringing a portable charger for multi-day trips. In the outing covered by TechCrunch on September 25, 2026, Silberling said battery life and screen brightness were not a problem. Neither statement is a controlled battery test.
Android Authority’s 2026 report describes a 3-inch square LCD, 6 GB of RAM, 128 GB of storage, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, NFC, and a 13 MP ultrawide camera. That report did not state the processor or battery capacity. The compact square shape may also take getting used to: Silberling described it as unfamiliar during her hands-on.
Bluetooth and USB-C headphones work directly. If you want to use wired 3.5 mm headphones, Meadow says you need a 3.5 mm-to-USB-C adapter.

Who should consider Meadow?
- It may fit: You want a second device for selected outings and the supported tools cover your needs.
- It may not fit: You need to replace your main phone, use an existing number, install arbitrary apps, or stay fully available in your usual group chats.
- Compare carefully: Light Phone is positioned as a replacement-oriented option, while Meadow is a companion device; TechCrunch also mentions Wisephone’s minimal interface. Android Authority and Notebookcheck discuss Mudita Kompakt, and Android Authority points to inexpensive Nokia-branded feature phones. Compare options by supported apps, number and contact rules, recurring cost, geography, and how restricted the software is rather than assuming one is best for everyone.
