McDonald’s says it does not. In a statement quoted by the AP, the company said, “AI does not set menu prices at McDonald’s restaurants – McDonald’s franchisees do.” It describes the tools as optional and says they do not automate, coordinate, or fix prices. These are the company’s statements in response to the lawsuit, not findings by the court.

The distinction at issue is between a tool that recommends prices and the franchisee’s decision about what price to post. The complaint alleges that the system’s shared data and recommendations enable coordination; McDonald’s says franchisees make their own pricing decisions. The reporting available does not independently resolve that dispute.
Are franchisees required to use the recommendations?
That has not been independently established in the available reporting. McDonald’s says its tools are optional, while the complaint challenges the pricing system and its alleged effect on competition. What is the customer asking the court to do?
According to the AP, the plaintiff seeks class certification, damages, and an order preventing enforcement of agreements that restrict competition. These are requested remedies, not relief the court has granted. Filing a proposed class action does not mean a class has been certified.
