McDonald’s announced its 50th consecutive year of dividend increases on September 17, 2026, qualifying it for the company’s stated definition of a Dividend King. The latest increase sets the quarterly dividend at $1.93 per share, or $7.72 annualized. That long record is meaningful history, but it does not prove the shares are cheap or guarantee future dividends.
Is McDonald’s a Dividend King?
Yes. In its September 17, 2026 announcement, McDonald’s said the increase marked its 50th consecutive year of dividend increases and that the company joins the Dividend Kings. McDonald’s defines Dividend Kings as U.S. public companies with at least 50 consecutive annual dividend increases, and said fewer than 60 companies met that definition.
The milestone establishes that McDonald’s reached the 50-year threshold; it does not establish that the company is the newest Dividend King or rank it against other companies. The 2025 Form 10-K separately reports that McDonald’s paid common-stock dividends for 50 consecutive years through 2025 and increased the amount at least once each year.

What is McDonald’s dividend?
The company announced a 4% increase to a quarterly cash dividend of $1.93 per share, equivalent to $7.72 over four quarters. The announced dividend is payable December 15, 2026, to shareholders of record at the close of business on December 1, 2026. These are the terms in the September 17 company announcement; investors should check the company’s later disclosures for any subsequent changes.

What does the 50-year record tell investors—and what doesn’t it tell them?
A long history shows that McDonald’s has raised its dividend consistently across past years. It is evidence of a sustained pattern, not a promise about the next payment or increase. In its 2025 Form 10-K, McDonald’s says future dividend amounts are considered after reviewing profitability expectations and financing needs, and that dividends are declared at the board’s discretion.
McDonald’s reported the following results for fiscal 2025. They provide operating and cash-flow context, but do not independently establish future dividend safety or the value of the stock.

Systemwide sales are not the same as McDonald’s consolidated revenue. The reported $7.2 billion of free cash flow is a historical fiscal-year result, not a forecast of cash available for future dividends.
Does “At Fast Food Prices” mean McDonald’s stock is cheap?
That conclusion is not established by the dividend milestone or by McDonald’s being a fast-food company. A claim that the stock is cheap needs a dated share price, a named valuation measure, and a clearly defined comparison—such as a peer group or McDonald’s own valuation history. The announced annualized dividend alone also cannot establish a yield without a share price.

The phrase could instead refer to menu prices. That comparison would need to identify a country or local market, specific item or meal, ordering channel, observation date, and comparison restaurant. McDonald’s 2025 filing discusses inflationary pressures and management responses such as menu-price adjustments, cost controls, inventory turnover, and property holdings; that discussion does not show that menu prices are low or affordable in every market.

For a useful comparison with another dividend stock, use figures from the same date and apply consistent definitions. Consider the annualized dividend and yield at a selected share price, the dividend relative to earnings and free cash flow, the rate and history of dividend growth, business and balance-sheet risks, and valuation against a named peer group or the company’s own history. The company’s investor financial-information page indexes dividend announcements and annual reports for checking later official disclosures.

McDonald’s CFO Ian Borden described the milestone as “the result of decades-long commitment to maintaining our financial discipline and rewarding our shareholders,” in the company’s September 17, 2026 release. That is management’s characterization of the achievement; the filing’s board-discretion language remains important when considering future payments.
