To make your Galaxy Watch5 last longer between charges, start by reducing screen activity: lower brightness, turn off Always On Display and Raise wrist to wake, and set screen timeout to 15 seconds. Then trim unneeded notifications and background apps. If you need more runtime, Samsung’s Power saving and Watch only modes impose larger tradeoffs.
1. Reduce how often the display turns on
On the watch, open Settings > Display and adjust these options:
- Lower Brightness to a level you can comfortably read.
- Turn off Always On Display.
- Turn off Raise wrist to wake.
- Set Screen timeout to 15 seconds.
These Watch5-specific steps follow Samsung’s battery-life guidance. They reduce display activity while keeping ordinary timekeeping available. Menu names or locations can vary with software version.

Choose a static watch face
Use a static face from the preinstalled options rather than one with unnecessary animation or frequent updates.

Review notifications and apps
In the Galaxy Wearable app on your connected phone, turn off notifications for apps that do not need to interrupt you on your wrist. Samsung also recommends checking which apps use battery power and removing apps you no longer use. The Ireland version of Samsung’s Watch5 guidance displays an update date of 2 January 2025 and corroborates these recommendations.
3. Keep the health tracking you rely on
Samsung lists manual-only heart-rate and stress measurement, and turning off automatic activity detection, as possible battery-saving choices. Consider them only if you are comfortable losing automatic readings or detection. Samsung cautions: “Don’t disable the features if the automatic tracking is important for your health.”

If you want to change these settings, review the relevant heart-rate, stress, and activity-detection options on the watch and keep automatic tracking enabled for anything you rely on. Exact menu paths may vary by software version.
4. Use Power saving for a broader compromise
When display and app adjustments are not enough, enable Settings > Battery > Power saving. Samsung’s general Galaxy Watch guidance says Power saving turns off Wi-Fi and mobile data and limits performance, while calls, messages, and Bluetooth notifications remain available. Those are general Galaxy Watch behaviors, not an exhaustive specification for every Watch5 software version. See Samsung’s battery-drain guidance for that explanation.

5. Reserve Watch only mode for timekeeping
Watch only mode turns off everything except the watch face, so it is a last resort when you need the watch to show the time rather than provide its usual connected and tracking functions. Samsung says to press and hold or charge the watch to exit the mode.

Samsung does not state how many extra hours or days these settings add. The result depends on your settings and how you use the watch, so treat the adjustments as ways to reduce avoidable activity rather than a guaranteed runtime figure. Start with the display and notification changes; move to tracking restrictions or saving modes only if their costs suit your needs.
