Mason McTavish scored 94 seconds into his St. Louis Blues debut, and the Blues opened the 2026-27 season with a 4-0 win over the Dallas Stars on Friday, Oct. 2, in Dallas. Joel Hofer made 25 saves for his ninth career shutout, according to The Associated Press’ game report.
How the Blues beat the Stars
McTavish put St. Louis ahead to stay with the game’s first goal, scoring 94 seconds into his first appearance for the Blues. AP described the tally as the fifth-quickest season-opening goal in franchise history; that historical ranking is attributed to AP’s report and is not independently confirmed here.
Dalibor Dvorsky added a second-period goal. Jimmy Snuggerud and Pius Suter scored empty-net goals in the final two and a half minutes to complete the 4-0 result. Dallas goaltender Jake Oettinger stopped 20 shots, per AP.
Hofer shuts out Dallas
Hofer turned aside 25 shots to record his ninth career shutout, according to AP. The shutout helped St. Louis start its season with a win while Dallas was held scoreless in its opener.

What McTavish’s debut means
McTavish arrived in St. Louis from Anaheim in a June trade, with the AP report identifying first-round picks Nos. 15 and 29 as the return. He wore No. 83 in his Blues debut and immediately supplied the opening goal.
Other notable moments from the opener

- AP said the shutout was Dallas’s first in a home opener since the team moved to Dallas before the 1993-94 season.
- Blues defenseman Brandon Carlo received a kneeing penalty and game misconduct early in the third period after Roope Hintz went down. AP reported that Hintz returned a few minutes later.
- Alexey Toropchenko left early in the second period with an apparent right-shoulder injury, according to AP. That is an event report, not a medical diagnosis or an update on his current status.
