Marvell Technology (NASDAQ: MRVL) is a fabless semiconductor company whose results are increasingly tied to data-center demand, including spending on AI infrastructure. In the quarter ended August 1, 2026, data center generated 79% of revenue. That concentration gives investors a clear growth driver to watch, but also makes customer spending, customer concentration, manufacturing capacity and competition especially important risks.
What Marvell does
Marvell designs and sells semiconductor solutions for data infrastructure, from data-center core systems to network-edge applications. Its products include integrated circuits built using system-on-chip architectures and analog, mixed-signal and digital signal-processing capabilities. The company reports its end markets in two groups: data center, and communications and other.

Marvell is fabless: it designs chips but relies on outside partners for manufacturing, assembly, testing and packaging. That model leaves the company dependent on suppliers for the capacity and components needed to deliver products.

Recent results: data center is the largest revenue driver
In its Q2 fiscal 2027 results, for the quarter ended August 1, 2026, Marvell reported revenue of $2.739 billion, up 37% year over year. The company attributed the increase primarily to a 46% rise in data-center sales, citing strong AI-related demand. Data center accounted for 79% of quarterly revenue; communications and other made up the remaining 21%. These figures were reported by Marvell in its August 27, 2026 earnings release.
#1 Best Overall
| Q2 fiscal 2027 measure | Reported result |
|---|---|
| Revenue | $2.739 billion; up 37% year over year |
| Data-center share of revenue | 79% |
| GAAP gross margin | 53.1% |
| Non-GAAP gross margin | 58.9% |
| GAAP diluted EPS | $0.33 |
| Non-GAAP diluted EPS | $0.94 |
The margins and diluted earnings per share above are separate measures: GAAP figures follow generally accepted accounting principles, while non-GAAP figures are adjusted measures presented by the company. Investors comparing results should keep each measure distinct and consult Marvell’s release for its non-GAAP reconciliations.
The periods matter when judging how concentrated the business has become. Marvell’s 2026 proxy statement said data center accounted for approximately three-quarters of fiscal 2026 revenue and exceeded $6 billion for that year. The 79% figure is for Q2 fiscal 2027, not the full fiscal year.
What could support further growth
Marvell’s recent growth case centers on continued data-center investment, particularly AI-related infrastructure. In its 2026 proxy statement, the company identified optical interconnect and custom silicon as important data-center areas. Its August 2026 earnings release described stronger data-center growth and demand across its portfolio. Those are company descriptions of its business and demand environment, not independent forecasts.
Management’s August 27, 2026 outlook called for Q3 fiscal 2027 revenue of $3.150 billion, plus or minus 5%. That is guidance, not a reported result or a guarantee. In the same release, Chairman and CEO Matt Murphy said, “AI-related bookings remain exceptionally robust, and we expect our revenue growth to accelerate further through the remainder of fiscal 2027.” Investors should weigh that outlook alongside the risks Marvell disclosed about AI spending and customer deployment schedules.
Key risks for MRVL investors
Customer concentration
Marvell’s August 2026 Form 10-Q said its ten largest customers, including distributors and direct customers, accounted for 82% of fiscal 2026 revenue. Two customers each represented at least 10%. This means a major customer’s reduced orders, financial distress, changing market position or decision to use another supplier could have a material effect on sales.
Dependence on AI and data-center spending
The current growth profile makes Marvell exposed to the timing and scale of customer investment in AI infrastructure. The company warns that spending may not be sustainable and that customers could cut or redirect it. Deployments may also be delayed by constraints such as power or water availability, permitting, supply bottlenecks or local opposition. A delay can shift orders and revenue even when the underlying project has not been abandoned.
Customers developing chips in-house
Large cloud providers and other enterprises may develop more chips internally, reducing their need for external suppliers such as Marvell. The company also warns that AI-assisted design could accelerate competitors, change product economics or shorten product life cycles. Custom-silicon opportunities and customer insourcing therefore sit on opposite sides of the same strategic relationship: a customer may work with an outside designer for some needs while building other chips itself.

Manufacturing and supply-chain dependence
Because Marvell does not manufacture its own chips, constraints affecting advanced wafers, substrates, testing or other components can limit shipments, extend lead times or raise costs. Supplier dependence can make it harder to respond quickly when customer demand changes, and can affect margins as well as revenue.
Competition, pricing and product execution
Marvell’s fiscal 2026 Form 10-K describes intense competition, rapid technological change and pricing pressure. The company must introduce products on time and win customer acceptance; delays or weaker uptake can undermine expected sales. Product mix and costs also matter: even when revenue grows, the margin outcome may differ depending on which products are sold and what it costs to deliver them.
Guidance may not be achieved
The Q3 fiscal 2027 revenue outlook reflects management’s expectations as of August 27, 2026. It is forward-looking and may change as demand, supply, product mix or customer schedules evolve. Results should be judged against reported outcomes, not treated as if the guidance were already earned revenue.

These indicators help investors test whether the growth story is broadening, remaining concentrated or encountering friction:
- Data-center revenue and mix: Track both the dollar growth and share of total revenue in subsequent reports. Growth in the segment is important, but so is whether reliance on it continues to rise.
- Customer concentration: Watch for changes in the contribution of the largest customers and any signs that orders are being delayed, reduced or sourced differently.
- Margins and product mix: Compare GAAP with GAAP and non-GAAP with non-GAAP across periods. Consider whether changes in margins accompany shifts in product mix or costs.
- Customer design wins and insourcing: Look for evidence that Marvell is winning programs while also assessing whether customers are bringing more chip design in-house.
- Guidance versus results: Compare each quarter’s outlook with the later reported figures, while accounting for the period covered and any revised expectations.
What the available figures cannot tell you
Revenue growth and management guidance do not establish whether MRVL shares are attractively priced. The figures here do not provide a fair-value estimate, a current share-price analysis or a suitable entry price. A stock decision also depends on an investor’s assumptions about future growth, margins, risk and valuation—assumptions that should be assessed separately from Marvell’s reported operating results.
The company’s August 2026 Form 10-Q and fiscal 2026 Form 10-K describe risks from Marvell’s perspective; its earnings release and proxy statement report company results and management views. Those documents are useful for understanding what the company has disclosed, but management’s strategic claims and forecasts are not independent assessments.
