Marsh has appointed Alexander Reath as U.S. Real Estate and Hospitality Practice Leader within Marsh Risk. Based in Boston, he will lead the U.S. real-estate practice across asset classes and report to Darren Cromwell, Marsh Risk’s Industry Practice Group Leader for the U.S. and Canada.

What Reath’s new role covers

Reath’s remit is national: he will lead Marsh’s U.S. real-estate practice across all asset classes. The appointment coverage says his work includes developing market strategies, coordinating specialist resources across Marsh, and delivering tailored risk solutions to clients nationwide.

In a statement reported by Risk & Insurance, Reath said: “The commercial real estate and hospitality market continues to evolve, and clients are facing a wide range of challenges across every asset class.”

How the appointment differs from his earlier roles

Before this appointment, Reath’s most recent role was U.S. Property Real Estate Leader. The reports describe that position as involving marketplace strategies and customized solutions for complex real-estate and hospitality risks. His earlier regional role was leading Marsh’s New England Property practice for more than a decade, according to the appointment coverage.

The new title places him in a national practice-leadership role rather than a New England-specific one. Marsh’s 2025 real-estate practice document previously identified him as Managing Director, U.S. Property, Real Estate Leader; that is a historical title in that dated material, not the new title announced in 2026.

Reath’s reported experience

Risk & Insurance and Insurance Journal report that Reath has more than 25 years of property-insurance experience and more than a decade leading Marsh’s New England Property practice. These are experience details stated in appointment coverage, rather than independently substantiated career records in the cited material.

Darren Cromwell, identified in Risk & Insurance’s report as Marsh Risk’s Industry Practice Group Leader for the U.S. and Canada, said: “Alex has a proven track record of working closely with clients to understand their businesses and deliver thoughtful, effective solutions to address their evolving risk challenges.”

What Marsh’s real-estate practice includes

Marsh’s 2025 real-estate practice document describes work supporting real-estate and private-equity institutions that invest in or originate debt. It discusses exposures including unpaid loan balances, borrowers failing to maintain required insurance, foreclosed properties, and portfolios concentrated in catastrophe-prone areas.

The document describes tailored mortgage impairment, force-placed, real-estate-owned (REO), and parametric insurance solutions. It says these may be designed alongside existing property and liability placements and with specialty carriers. Those examples explain part of Marsh’s broader real-estate work; they do not establish a change in coverage terms, pricing, capacity, or client outcomes resulting from Reath’s appointment.
