MarsCat is Elephant Robotics’ MARS-1001 bionic robot cat: a physical home companion designed to move, respond to touch and voice, recognize faces, and develop different behavior patterns through interaction. It is also programmable through the company’s MarsAI Python and Raspberry Pi stack. The main ownership caveat is availability: the official regional shop currently marks MarsCat unavailable or sold out, so check stock, replacement-part access, and software support before committing.
What is MarsCat?
MarsCat is a four-legged robotic companion made by Elephant Robotics. The manufacturer describes it as a bionic pet and home robot, rather than a conventional toy or a software-only pet. Its model number is MARS-1001. Elephant Robotics says it is intended to comfort and surprise users; its age guidance is 12+.
Its hardware combines movement, sensing, and onboard computing. The manufacturer lists 16 joints, a Raspberry Pi 3B computer, a 5-megapixel camera, capacitive touch sensing, a microphone and speaker, and Bluetooth. Its eyes are 128 × 128-pixel OLED displays. The body uses plastic, glass, and rubber, weighs approximately 2.9 kg, and was offered in white, black, grey, and ginger. See the official MarsCat specifications.

What can the MarsCat robot cat do?
Elephant Robotics’ documentation describes MarsCat as responsive to touch and voice, able to see faces, and able to play with toys. Its listed cat-like motions include walking, running, sleeping, sitting, stretching, kneading, biting its nails, and burying litter. The last behavior is a simulated motion; the documentation says MarsCat does not produce waste.

Does MarsCat learn your personality?
Elephant Robotics says each MarsCat can develop a different personality based on how people interact with it. Its examples range from vivacious, curious, and vocal to lazy or aloof, and it says petting and other interaction can shape behavior. A historical Kickstarter FAQ further says personality depends on how often the robot is played with, how often it is charged, and whether people touch or talk to it (campaign FAQ).

Read “learns your personality” as the manufacturer’s description of adaptive behavioral design, not as evidence that MarsCat understands a person’s character or emotions. The cited materials do not establish an independent study validating how the personality system works or how reliably it changes behavior.
Can you program MarsCat?
Yes. Elephant Robotics publishes MarsAI, an open-source Python and Raspberry Pi software stack intended for MarsCat. The repository describes a flow from sensing and feature extraction through modeling and behavior selection to action. Documented elements include Python movement APIs and voice-command recognition. The repository also lists Raspberry Pi 3B, Raspbian, OpenCV, Pocketsphinx, and PyFirmata among its hardware or software dependencies.

That makes MarsCat relevant not only to companion-robot buyers but also to robotics learners and hobbyists. However, a published repository is not proof that every dependency, prebuilt software image, or online service is still maintained. Check the MarsAI repository for its current setup instructions, code, and activity before planning a project.

At the time reflected by the official regional shop page, MarsCat is marked unavailable or sold out. The shop identifies standard, premium, and developed sets and lists colors and shipping information, but those details do not establish that a unit is currently purchasable in your region. Check the Elephant Robotics shop listing directly; do not rely on historical prices or old listings as a current offer.

Confirm with Elephant Robotics before using a substitute charger or battery.
