The Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant American Express Card costs $650 a year, according to Marriott Bonvoy’s card comparison page. Its strongest value is for people who stay at Marriott properties and can use the monthly dining credits, annual Free Night Award, Platinum Elite status, and lounge access. Those benefits have conditions, so their headline amounts are not guaranteed savings. The terms below reflect American Express and Marriott Bonvoy pages accessed October 7, 2026; check the live application and benefit terms before applying.
What does the Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant card cost?
Marriott Bonvoy lists the card’s annual fee as $650. Whether that fee makes sense depends on how much you would actually use its benefits—not on adding together every advertised maximum. For example, the dining credit is divided into monthly amounts, and the Free Night Award only helps if you can use it for a stay you want.
American Express lists the card’s earning rates as follows:

How the $300 dining credit works
American Express offers up to $300 in statement credits per calendar year for eligible restaurant purchases worldwide, capped at $25 per month. To receive the full annual maximum, you need enough eligible charges in each month; the annual ceiling is not a single $300 credit. Do not assume an unused monthly amount rolls over.
Count only the monthly amounts you would spend at eligible restaurants anyway. If your usual spending does not use the full $25 in a given month, the unused portion does not make the card’s annual fee cheaper by its full advertised maximum.
How the annual Free Night Award works
After the card’s renewal month, the member receives one Free Night Award each year. It can be used at a participating Marriott Bonvoy property with an award redemption level of up to 85,000 points. American Express says a member may use or purchase up to 25,000 additional points to top up the award, subject to the terms.

- Check the property and dates: The award is not a promise of availability at a particular hotel or on a particular night. Confirm that the property participates and that your chosen stay can be booked at the required award level.
- Account for extra charges: The award covers the eligible night, but resort fees may still apply, and you remain responsible for incidentals.
- Do not treat it as cash: Its value depends on whether you can redeem it for a stay you would otherwise book and on the points price for that stay.
American Express’s award terms say the Free Night Award cannot be combined with cash. The permitted point top-up is separate: you may add up to 25,000 points under the stated terms to reach a qualifying redemption level.
What status and travel benefits come with the card?
Complimentary Platinum Elite status
American Express lists complimentary Marriott Bonvoy Platinum Elite status. Its usefulness depends on your Marriott stays and whether the status benefits improve those stays. A traveler who already has status through another route should consider the incremental value rather than counting the full status benefit again.
25 Elite Night Credits
The card provides 25 Elite Night Credits per calendar year toward Marriott Bonvoy elite status, subject to account limitations. Marriott says this benefit is not exclusive to Amex-issued cards, so check whether another eligible card or account arrangement already provides credits before treating all 25 as an added benefit.

Priority Pass lounge access
Enrollment is required for Priority Pass. American Express describes the benefit as unlimited visits to more than 1,300 lounges in more than 130 countries. Lounge networks and access rules can change; check the current participating-lounge rules and whether the locations you use are included.

American Express lists either a $120 Global Entry application-fee statement credit or up to $85 toward TSA PreCheck every four years when the fee is charged to the card. TSA PreCheck eligibility also depends on the enrollment provider requirements in the benefit terms.
Conditional Ritz-Carlton and St. Regis property credit
The card lists up to $100 in credit for qualifying charges at Ritz-Carlton or St. Regis when you book directly at a special rate and meet a two-night minimum. Because the benefit depends on that booking and stay, count it only if you would make a qualifying reservation.

What is the Brilliant Earned Choice Award?
At $60,000 in eligible purchases during a calendar year, a cardmember may select one Brilliant Earned Choice Award. American Express lists these choices:
- Five Nightly Upgrade Awards
- One Free Night Award worth up to 85,000 points
- A 50,000-point deposit
This is a substantial spending threshold. Include the award in your calculation only if you would naturally reach $60,000 in eligible purchases without increasing spending to trigger it.

How to decide whether the card is worth it
Compare the fee with benefits you can realistically use, not their maximum advertised values. Before applying, consider:
- Dining: How many months will you use the full $25 credit on eligible restaurant charges you would have made anyway?
- Free night: Is there a participating property and date you are likely to book at or below the 85,000-point limit, and would a top-up help you use it?
- Status and nights: Will Platinum Elite status change your Marriott stays, and do you already receive status or Elite Night Credits elsewhere?
- Travel benefits: Do you use Priority Pass, Global Entry, or TSA PreCheck, and do other cards you hold already provide overlapping benefits?
- Spending pattern: Do the 6-point, 3-point, and 2-point categories fit your spending better than the rewards on cards you already use?
- Offer and eligibility: What welcome offer appears in the live application path, and do its restrictions allow you to receive it?
The card is most compelling for a Marriott loyalist who can use several of its benefits without changing spending or travel plans. If you would leave monthly dining credits unused, struggle to redeem the Free Night Award, or already have overlapping status and travel benefits, the $650 fee is harder to justify.
