There is no single best Mario Kart Tour driver for every course. The useful choice depends first on which drivers are favored for the exact course and variant, then on their special skills and upgrade state. This is now historical reference: Nintendo says Mario Kart Tour service ended on September 30, 2026.
How to choose a driver for a specific course
Start with course fit, not a driver’s overall tier. Nintendo’s official Mii Tour announcement explains: “Favored courses and special skills vary by suit, so try to dress for success!” That is a reminder that even a driver’s broad reputation cannot establish the best pick for a particular course.
- Identify the exact course and variant. A recommendation should refer to the course being played, rather than treating every version as interchangeable.
- List the drivers favored for that course. Compare eligible options before considering a general tier ranking. Nintendo’s description confirms that favored courses can vary by Mii Racing Suit.
- Compare special skills. The driver’s associated skill is a meaningful distinction between course-favored choices.
- Consider upgrade state. The game allowed drivers and related gear to be upgraded. Include a driver’s level and relevant improvement state in the comparison, but there is no universal level threshold established by the sources cited here.
- Match the recommendation to the goal. A broad viability ranking is not the same as a course-specific pick, a ranked-cup recommendation, or a scoring comparison.
A complete historical driver-by-course dataset and standardized performance test are not established here. If the top-shelf or course-favorite data for a particular course cannot be verified, don’t infer a winner from a general ranking.

Pocket Gamer’s Mario Kart Tour tier list, updated September 2, 2026 and labeled version 3.7.0, ranks drivers by viability and popularity. It lists Luigi (Classic), Toadette (Explorer), and Rosalina (Swimwear) among its S-tier picks and discusses their skills.
#1 Best Overall

Those placements are Pocket Gamer’s editorial ranking, not Nintendo’s official list and not verified winners for every course. Use it as broad context only: a high overall rank does not show that a driver is favored for the specific course and variant you need.
Service status and historical records
Nintendo’s official Mario Kart Tour page says service ended Wednesday, September 30, 2026. Nintendo Support gives the cutoff as 11:00 p.m. PT on September 29, 2026; these are the same cutoff expressed in different time zones. Consequently, this guide is for historical reference, not advice for an active tour.
