There was no single best driver for every Mario Kart Tour ranked cup. The strongest historical choice depended on the specific course, which drivers had top-shelf coverage there, and each driver’s level. Mario Kart Tour service ended in 2026, so this guide explains how to evaluate past ranked cups and scores—not how to prepare for a future live cup.
Is Mario Kart Tour still running ranked cups?
No. Nintendo Support says service was discontinued at 11:00 p.m. PT on September 29, 2026. Nintendo’s official game site gives the end date as Wednesday, September 30, 2026. Those dates reflect the Pacific Time shutdown and the date presented on Nintendo’s site, rather than a continuing ranked schedule. Nintendo Support’s discontinuation notice and the official Mario Kart Tour site document the end of service.
As a result, “best drivers for ranked cups” is now a historical question. You can use the approach below to interpret old cup results or records still available in the app, but there is no active competitive meta to optimize for.

Start with the exact course and tour date. A driver’s usefulness depended first on whether that driver had top-shelf coverage for the course; comparing driver names without the course can produce a misleading answer.

- Identify the course and tour. Use the course from the specific ranked cup or record you are examining. Coverage varied by tour, so do not transfer a driver recommendation from one tour to another without checking that tour’s data.
- Check top-shelf coverage. Compare the drivers documented for that course. The final-tour community guide for Anniversary Tour 2026 Week 2 records course coverage, but it is community-authored and specific to that tour: the guide’s ranked-course coverage.
- Compare driver levels. In that final-tour guide, some items gained top-shelf course coverage at levels 3, 6, or 8. These are thresholds documented for some items in the guide, not universal level rules for every driver or tour.
- Keep the date attached to any recommendation. State the tour or version and the source of the coverage data when describing a historical “best” choice.
For a broader but less course-specific perspective, Pocket Gamer’s driver tier list was updated on September 2, 2026, and labeled for version 3.7.0. Treat it as a dated editorial snapshot from shortly before shutdown, not proof that a listed driver was best on a particular ranked course: Pocket Gamer’s Mario Kart Tour tier list.
How could players improve a ranked-cup score?
Nintendo’s game description says players could collect and upgrade drivers, karts, and gliders, and encourages trying different combinations to increase a score. That supports a practical historical approach: compare available combinations for the course and use the course-specific coverage and item levels recorded for the tour you are analyzing. Nintendo’s description does not establish an exact scoring formula or prove that one driver maximized scores on every course. See Nintendo’s Mario Kart Tour for iOS/Android page.

Keep individual race scores distinct from the All-Cup Ranking. Nintendo describes All-Cup Ranking as total points across cups during a tour, and distinguishes it from the in-game tier ranking. The archive explains the ranking record, but does not provide an individual-race score formula: Nintendo’s All-Cup Ranking archive detail.
What records can players still view?
Nintendo’s stated access windows are limited and refer to archives, not renewed competition. Past All-Cup Rankings can be viewed through the end of September 2027; in-app tour records and inquiries remain available until January 13, 2027. For the precise terms, consult Nintendo Support’s service discontinuation notice.
