The 2026 City of STEM + Los Angeles Maker Faire was scheduled for April 26 at Exposition Park. Its “A Century of Learning” theme connected the hands-on science event to the centennial of the Los Angeles Central Library, dedicated in July 1926. The date has passed; the available program details below describe what organizers announced beforehand, not confirmed post-event results.
What was the City of STEM + Los Angeles Maker Faire?
It was a free, all-ages event planned as a day of science, engineering, making, and learning activities. The preview described more than 200 science and education organizations, makers, and guests participating. That broad figure is not the same category as the Library Board’s estimate of about 120 makers and vendors, and neither source provides a verified final count for the 2026 event.
The Columbia Memorial Space Center was identified as the event’s producer. The Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County was an event partner, and the Los Angeles Public Library sponsored the Maker Faire. The preview also listed Metro, Financial Partners Credit Union, Southern California Edison, Northrop Grumman, Exposition Park, Tesoro, the Office of Supervisor Holly J. Mitchell, and the cities of Downey and Los Angeles as supporters; it does not establish that each supporter organized or attended. Make:’s event preview and the Library Board minutes describe the program and institutional roles.

When and where was the 2026 event?
The event was scheduled for Sunday, April 26, 2026, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the South Lawn at Exposition Park, 900 Exposition Blvd., Los Angeles. Because the date is past, these details are a record of the announced schedule, not an indication that the event is still upcoming. The Board minutes also characterized it as free and open to all ages.
What activities were announced?
The preview presented a mix of science demonstrations, maker exhibits, performances, panels, and participatory projects. These were planned attractions as described before the event; the sources do not confirm which activities ultimately took place.

Space science and engineering
Announced space-related programming included engineers connected with NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory Europa Clipper program, a JPL Mars display with an eight-wheeled rover demonstration, and an Artemis update. A science-themed play, “A Spark in the Sky,” was also planned, focusing on astronaut and engineer Ellen Ochoa.
Sports science and lowrider culture
A Science of Sport Pavilion and a sports-and-STEM panel were on the program. The preview also named a lowrider presentation with hands-on activities, bringing engineering and making into a cultural context beyond a conventional lab demonstration.

For someone inspired to try a related project at home, a general Raspberry Pi beginner kit is a possible starting point—not an official Maker Faire kit or a product identified as used or endorsed at the event. What does “A Century of Learning” mean?
The phrase refers to the Los Angeles Central Library’s 100th anniversary, not a century of Maker Faire events. The Los Angeles Public Library says the Central Library was dedicated in July 1926 and framed 2026 as a year-long “Central 100” celebration. The Library describes the building as a “guiding light of learning for the City.” A time capsule placed in the cornerstone during the building’s original construction was unveiled publicly on January 29, 2026. The Maker Faire preview connected the centennial to the Library’s sponsorship and a shared emphasis on project-based learning. See the Library’s Central 100 Celebration page.

What do the attendance and participation figures establish?
The published figures refer to different things and should not be treated as a final 2026 event report.
- About 30,000 attendees: the Library Board minutes’ approximate attendance figure for the previous event, not a 2026 attendance result.
- About 120 makers and vendors: the Board minutes’ expected count for the April 2026 event, not a verified final count.
- More than 200 organizations and participants: Make:’s broad preview description of science and education organizations, makers, and guests. It is not an audited count and does not necessarily describe the same categories as the makers-and-vendors estimate.
The Board minutes also say the Library’s own earlier Maker Faire reached 10,000 attendees and outgrew Central Library space. They describe three years of Library-run fairs followed by three years of partnership with City of STEM. Those historical figures concern earlier Library events, not the 2026 Exposition Park turnout. The same minutes record a proposed $160,000 transfer within the Library’s 2025–26 budget for event-related contractual services, within a $175,000 total project budget, with $15,000 remaining for administrative expenses.

What is known about results after the event?
The sources documenting the program are pre-event coverage and February 2026 Board minutes. They do not establish final attendance, the final number of makers or vendors, or which announced program elements actually occurred. The announced schedule and lineup can therefore be described, but not presented as verified post-event outcomes.
Where can readers learn more about the Library centennial?
The Library’s centennial kick-off material named two books planned for June 2026: Los Angeles Central Library POPS: Celebrating a Century of the Light of Learning, written by Christina Rice and illustrated by Mirelle Ortega with paper engineering by Matthew Reinhart, and the children’s picture book L is for Librarian, written by Susan Lendroth and illustrated by Alexander Vidal. Angel City Press at Los Angeles Public Library was named in the material. The announcement establishes the planned titles and release timing, but not their current availability.
