Maker Faire Cairo’s tenth-anniversary edition took place on April 18–19, 2025, at The Greek Campus in downtown Cairo. The festival brought together hands-on workshops, demonstrations and creative activities, with subjects ranging from electronics and robotics to crafts.
What is Maker Faire Cairo?
Maker Faire Cairo describes itself as a DIY festival that brings creative communities together across crafts and technology. The broader Maker Faire concept, in the organizer’s description, is a gathering where makers show their work and share what they are learning across science, engineering, art, performance and craft. Maker Faire Cairo’s event page and About page describe that purpose.
The organizer says Maker Faire Cairo has been running since 2015. Ahram Online called the April 2025 event its tenth anniversary, in a report about the US Embassy in Cairo celebrating the milestone on April 18. Those accounts establish the anniversary framing, but do not document an uninterrupted festival edition every year.
When and where was the 2025 festival?
The organizer listed Maker Faire Cairo for April 18–19, 2025, at The Greek Campus in downtown Cairo. The official event page provides those dates and venue; the 2025 Maker Faire yearbook also lists Cairo in the international calendar.
#1 Best Overall
- 35+ Guided Electronics Projects: Progress from LEDs and buttons to RFID access, real-time clocks, motion and distance sensing, environmental monitoring, motor control and interactive displays for STEM learning, coding clubs and maker projects
- More I/O and Memory for Larger Builds: The MEGA 2560 R3 provides 54 digital I/O pins, including 15 PWM outputs, 16 analog inputs, 4 hardware serial ports and 256 KB flash for projects that combine more sensors, controls and displays
- 200+ Components for Prototyping: Includes LCD1602, RC522 RFID, RTC, DHT11, HC-SR501 PIR, ultrasonic and water-level sensors, GY-521, MAX7219, keypad, joystick, rotary encoder, relay, SG90 servo, stepper motor, DC motor, breadboard and more
- Learn, Modify and Create: Follow 35+ guided lessons with example code, then adjust sensor thresholds, timing, display text, motor behavior and control logic to turn structured exercises into access systems, monitors, alarms and interactive projects
- Organized for Repeatable Learning: Pre-soldered modules, a solderless breadboard, storage case and small-parts box reduce setup time and keep sensors, LEDs, ICs, wires and other components easy to find between projects
What could visitors see and do?
The 2025 schedule combined practical sessions, demonstrations, stage content and creative activities. Its variety made the event broader than a technology-only showcase.
Try electronics and robotics
- Hands-on electronics: “No-Code AI with XIAO ESP32S3 Sense” and “Build and Play Your Electronic Piano Board” were among the listed workshops.
- Robotics: The schedule included a build-your-own-robot demonstration.
These are examples from the 2025 programme, not confirmed activities for a future edition. The XIAO ESP32S3 Sense board appeared in a workshop title; the schedule does not establish that every attendee needed one.

- The second companion pack to the Make: Electronics book
- With over 130 components, organized in a rugged tackle-style box
- You'll learn all of the basic components and important principles through a series of "learn by discovery" experiments
- Note: Component Pack 2 is not compatible with the 2nd Edition of Make: Electronics. We are developing updated versions of these kits which will be out soon.
Explore crafts and other creative work
Craft sessions sat alongside the electronics and robotics programming, reflecting the organizer’s stated mix of DIY disciplines. The schedule also included stage content, so visitors could encounter both participatory activities and demonstrations or presentations. The organizer’s event page links to the event information, while its About page explains the wider Maker Faire format.

Ahram Online described attendance at the 2025 event as “thousands.” Its retrieved report does not provide a precise total or explain a counting method, so that description should not be read as an exact attendance figure. Ahram Online’s April 21, 2025 report also links the anniversary to the US Embassy in Cairo’s celebration.

- BUILD BREADBOARD CIRCUITS AND MINI PROJECTS - Create LED indicators, button inputs, traffic-light sequences, light-activated circuits, RGB effects and buzzer alarms for electronics practice, classroom demonstrations and maker projects
- 235 PARTS FOR REPEATABLE EXPERIMENTS - Includes a 400-tie-point solderless breadboard, power module, jumper wires, Dupont wires, potentiometer, buttons, LEDs, resistors, capacitors, diodes, transistors, buzzers and light-sensitive components
- LEARN HOW CORE COMPONENTS WORK - Use the 74HC595 to expand outputs, the 4N35 optocoupler to explore signal isolation, PN2222 transistors to switch loads and 1N4007 diodes for polarity protection and rectification experiments
- POWER AND REWIRE PROJECTS QUICKLY - Use the breadboard power module for selectable 3.3 V or 5 V rails, while rigid jumpers and female-to-male leads simplify connections; use a suitable 6.5–9 V DC input and do not exceed 9 V
- COMPONENT KIT WITH CLEAR EXPECTATIONS - A controller board, programming cable and wall power adapter are not included; use a compatible microcontroller for coded projects and follow the current tutorial, datasheets and wiring guidance
What the anniversary does—and does not—tell us
The official event listing places the 2025 festival at The Greek Campus over two days, while the organizer’s history says it began in 2015. The anniversary was reported in April 2025, but the available accounts do not supply a year-by-year record, a precise founding history, or confirmation of annual continuity. Nor do the 2025 event details establish dates, venue or programming for a later edition.
