Clear Partner and Clear UI make Claude Code easier to use in different ways: Clear Partner shapes how it communicates, while Clear UI puts status information where you can see it. They are independently installable plugins, not competing alternatives. The project’s evidence suggests Clear Partner can reduce response length without deliberately reducing investigation or verification—but it is a small, author-run evaluation, not proof that Claude becomes smarter or that every answer will be shorter.
How the two plugins differ
| Plugin | What it changes | What it can show or do | Setup and behavior |
|---|---|---|---|
| Clear Partner | Claude Code’s communication style | Answer-first, plain-English, concise responses by default, with more depth when requested; includes read-only diagnostic skills | Installed as an output style; its instruction file is about 4.6 KB, according to developer Nguyen Jesse |
| Clear UI | The status bar | Model, project, Git state, context percentage and usage information | Requires Node 18 or newer; default status uses locally available input and cached Git status. An optional model-specific weekly usage chip refreshes in the background |
Neither plugin is a substitute for the other. Clear Partner addresses what Claude says; Clear UI addresses what you can see about the session. You can install either one without installing the other.
What “concise without dumber” means here
Clear Partner’s central design distinction is between reducing the words shown to the user and reducing the work behind an answer. Its instructions aim to keep investigation, reasoning, coding and verification intact while making the response economical. Nguyen Jesse describes the principle as: “Economical in what the user reads, never in the work.”
Quick wins for a faster PC:

It is concise by default, but intended to provide detail when asked. The author also says, “Most brevity prompts quietly make the model shallower.” That is the author’s rationale for this particular design, not an established general finding about all brevity prompts.

What the reported results show—and do not show
Response length
Nguyen Jesse reports 524 words without Clear Partner and 258 words with it, or 51% fewer words. The figures are averages from four runs per arm across three everyday questions. This is a small, self-reported sample, not an independent benchmark. It does not establish that other prompts, coding tasks or users will see the same reduction. The project also records an earlier run in which the plugin response was longer than the stock response.
Behavioral evaluations
The Clear Claude project reports six of six cases with and without the style on Claude Code 2.1.274. On Claude Code 2.1.278, it reports six of six with the style and five of six in the baseline arm. In the baseline’s remaining case, Claude ran out of turns on an ambiguous request before producing a gradable final answer. The project cautions that one such run does not show that the style is better.
Rank #2
The project also reports six regression cases involving explicit user constraints and formatting, describing edits made in response to observed failures. These evaluations are project-reported behavioral checks, not independent validation or a broad test of intelligence, correctness or task success. Taken together, the available results support a limited claim about the intended communication style and the observed samples—not that Clear Partner makes Claude smarter.
Requirements and setup considerations
The repository states that the marketplace plugins support Windows, macOS and Linux with Claude Code 2.1.274 or later. Clear UI additionally requires Node 18 or newer. These are version-sensitive requirements; check the project repository for current compatibility and installation instructions before setting up either plugin.
Rank #3
The two plugins are separately installable, so choose based on the problem you want to address. Clear Partner is the relevant layer if responses feel too long. Clear UI is the relevant layer if session, project, Git, context or usage status is hard to see. Clear UI’s default status bar relies on locally available input and cached Git status; its model-specific weekly usage chip is optional and refreshes in the background.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Clear Transcript is a separate experiment
Clear Transcript redraws selected transcript elements using experimental function hooks. The project describes it as outside the marketplace and without a normal install path. It should not be treated as a third released marketplace plugin alongside Clear Partner and Clear UI.
Rank #4
The project says graduation depends on function hooks becoming documented, stable and enabled by default. Until then, it remains an experimental approach rather than a practical installation option for most users.
Quick Recap
Best Value
Who should consider each plugin
- Consider Clear Partner if you want answers presented more directly and briefly by default, while retaining the option to ask for detail.
- Consider Clear UI if you want model, project, Git, context or usage details visible in the status bar.
- Do not expect either plugin to prove or guarantee better reasoning, correctness or task completion; the reported evaluations do not establish those outcomes.
