The 2019 Maingear Vybe Stage 4 was a powerful, unusually quiet gaming desktop for its time, pairing an Intel Core i9-9900K with an Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080. Its strengths were clean assembly, strong 2019 gaming and productivity results, and cooling that kept fan noise in check. Its limits included a large, basic-looking case, a 512 GB boot SSD, and no built-in Bluetooth. Whether it is worth buying in 2026 depends on the condition and price of the specific used system; launch reviews cannot establish today’s resale value or availability.
What was the Maingear Vybe Stage 4?
Maingear’s 2019 Vybe was a configurable gaming desktop. Tom’s Hardware reviewed the Stage 4, a high-end configuration priced at $2,499 as reviewed. The publication reported that preset Vybe models ranged from $699 to $2,499 at launch, so the Stage 4’s price should not be confused with the entry model’s.
| Stage 4 component | 2019 configuration |
|---|---|
| Processor | Intel Core i9-9900K |
| Motherboard | MSI Z390 A-Pro |
| Memory | 16 GB HyperX Predator DDR4 |
| Graphics card | Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080 with 8 GB |
| Primary storage | Intel 660p 512 GB M.2 NVMe SSD |
| Secondary storage | 2 TB hard drive |
| Power supply | 750 W EVGA SuperNOVA B3 |
| Operating system | Windows 10 Home |
| Case | Tempered-glass Maingear Vybe mid-tower |
Tom’s Hardware listed the case at 18.6 × 8.7 × 17.9 inches. PC Gamer also listed a one-year comprehensive warranty, lifetime service labor, and phone support in its 2019 review; those launch-era terms do not establish coverage for a secondhand unit today.
How fast was it for gaming and productivity?
Reviewers found the Stage 4 capable across games and demanding desktop work in 2019. The results below are the publications’ reported measurements, not a promise of performance from a used system or in current games.

PC Gamer’s 2019 results
| Test | Reported result | Conditions stated in the review summary |
|---|---|---|
| 3DMark Fire Strike | 24,930 | Benchmark score |
| Cinebench single-core | 220 | Benchmark score |
| Cinebench multicore | 2,175 | Benchmark score |
| Total War: Warhammer II | 110 fps | Ultra settings; resolution not stated |
| Shadow of the Tomb Raider | 134 fps | Ultra settings; resolution not stated |
| Ghost Recon: Wildlands | 77 fps | Ultra settings; resolution not stated |
| 3DMark | 13,710 at 1440p; 6,845 at 4K | Reported as 1440p and 4K results |
Tom’s Guide’s 2019 results
| Test | Reported result |
|---|---|
| Battlefield V | 55 fps at 4K Ultra with ray tracing |
| Shadow of the Tomb Raider | 97 fps at 1080p; 33 fps at 4K |
| Hitman | 155 fps at 1080p; 85 fps at 4K |
| Grand Theft Auto V | 108 fps at 1080p; 35 fps at 4K |
| Geekbench 4 | 31,730 |
| HandBrake 4K-to-1080p transcode | 5 minutes 47 seconds |
| SSD copy rate | 463 MB/s |
Those results show that 4K gaming was possible, but not that every game could run at 4K with high frame rates: the reported Shadow of the Tomb Raider result, for example, was 33 fps at 4K. The numbers come from different reviewers’ 2019 test setups and should not be treated as a direct head-to-head comparison. Game updates, drivers, thermals, component wear, and software condition can all change results.
Was the Vybe really quiet?
Quiet operation was one of the Stage 4’s standout qualities. PC Gamer’s Joanna Nelius called it “the quietest ‘traditional-sized’ PC I have ever heard,” comparing its silence favorably with the One i160. Tom’s Hardware likewise reported that temperatures stayed under control without objectionable fan noise, and described five relatively quiet fans working with a 240 mm all-in-one liquid cooler.

That is a review-era assessment, not a guarantee about an older machine. Fan bearings, dust, pump condition, and the room where a PC is used can affect noise. A prospective used-PC buyer should listen for rattling fans, unusual pump noise, or changes in sound under load.
What were the case and upgrade experience like?
Case design and cleaning
The Vybe used a boxy black mid-tower design with a tempered-glass side panel, subtle RGB strips, and a front logo. Tom’s Hardware described the assembly as clean, but the case materials and styling were relatively basic rather than especially premium. Its size—18.6 × 8.7 × 17.9 inches—also means it needs more desk or floor space than a compact desktop.
Rank #3
- Powerful Performance: Equipped with a 9th Gen Intel Core i5 processor for smooth multitasking and dependable speed.
- High-Speed Storage: 500GB SSD ensures quick boot times and rapid access to your files and applications.
- Enhanced Multitasking: 16GB DDR4 RAM allows for efficient operation across multiple programs and tabs.
- Seamless Connectivity: Built-in WiFi and Bluetooth for easy wireless networking and device pairing.
- Modern RGB Setup: Includes an RGB backlit keyboard and mouse to enhance your workspace style.
Removable dust filters at the top and bottom help with cleaning. The bottom filter slides out toward the rear, however, so access is awkward if the case is placed close to a wall. Leave room behind the tower if you expect to remove it regularly.
Access and storage
Tom’s Guide described access to the CPU, GPU, RAM, and SSD from one side, with the power supply and hard drive accessible from the other. That makes routine upgrades and service more approachable than on a tightly enclosed system. The 512 GB SSD is a modest boot drive by modern game-library standards, so adding or replacing storage may be useful; check the exact unit’s available slots, installed parts, and operating condition before buying.

What connectivity and support did it include?
The MSI Z390 A-Pro provided Gigabit Ethernet and USB connectivity, but did not have onboard Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. Maingear included a small TP-Link USB Wi-Fi adapter with the reviewed system; Bluetooth peripherals require a separate adapter. Verify which accessories actually come with a used listing rather than assuming they are still present.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?

PC Gamer reported a one-year comprehensive warranty and lifetime service labor and phone support for the original offering. The 2019 review does not establish whether any warranty or service benefit transfers to a later owner, so confirm coverage directly with Maingear before relying on it.

Is the 2019 Maingear Vybe worth buying in 2026?
It may suit someone who wants an upgradeable tower and finds a well-maintained unit at a price that makes sense for its age. But the 2019 launch price and review results do not establish its current value, live availability, or performance in today’s games. Treat any purchase as a used-PC evaluation, not as buying a still-current $2,499 system.
- Check the actual CPU, graphics card, memory, drives, and power supply against the listing; configurations and later upgrades can differ from the reviewed Stage 4.
- Ask for evidence that it boots reliably, recognizes both drives, and can run a game or other sustained workload without crashes, overheating, or abnormal noise.
- Inspect the case, glass, dust filters, fans, and liquid-cooler operation. A clean-looking exterior alone does not establish the condition of the cooling system.
- Confirm which Wi-Fi adapter, Bluetooth adapter, cables, and other accessories are included, and price in any storage or connectivity additions you need.
- Compare the seller’s asking price with current alternatives and account for age, wear, missing accessories, and any warranty you can verify. No current resale price or stock level is established by the 2019 reviews.
For its original period, the Vybe’s appeal was not just the i9 and RTX 2080: it combined strong performance with notably restrained noise, tidy assembly, and accessible components. The unresolved question now is the condition and value of the individual used machine.
