MAINGEAR announced the ML-16 laptop series on June 18, 2024. The 16-inch line paired an Intel Core Ultra 7 155H processor with a choice of NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 or RTX 4070 Laptop GPUs, plus a 240Hz 2560×1600 display. Its launch price started at $1,869, but that is a historical price—not evidence of a current offer. Independent reviews found capable gaming and useful creator features, while also noting gameplay stutter, limited DCI-P3 color coverage and potentially loud fans.
What MAINGEAR announced
MAINGEAR positioned the ML-16 for gaming, productivity and creator work. Its June 2024 announcement described a configurable 16-inch laptop series with an Intel Core Ultra 7 155H processor and either an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 or RTX 4070 Mobile GPU. The company called the laptops an upgrade over past models; that was MAINGEAR CEO Wallace Santos’s marketing statement, not an independent comparison. Read MAINGEAR’s announcement via PR Newswire.

How much did the ML-16 cost?
The price depends on the date and configuration. MAINGEAR announced a $1,869 starting price in June 2024. Tom’s Guide listed its tested RTX 4070 configuration—with 32GB RAM and 2TB storage—at $2,199 when it reviewed the laptop in 2024. Notebookcheck’s September 2024 review said the ML-16 MK2 with RTX 4070 was shipping for roughly $2,000, while an RTX 4060 version was about $1,800. These are dated launch and review prices, not confirmed current pricing.
MAINGEAR’s launch offer included a custom IP67-rated waterproof, lockable hard case at no extra charge for the first 50 units. The announcement described a standard one-year warranty and access to lifetime support. The current collection page also displays a one-year standard warranty and lifetime USA support and labor; check the seller’s terms for the specific purchase.
What reviewers found in gaming and creative work
Gaming performance
In its October 11, 2024 review, Tom’s Guide measured an average of 109 FPS in Fortnite across three matches after adjusting a resource-heavy setting. In Return to Moria, the reviewer recorded an average of 59 FPS at the laptop’s full resolution and high settings with DLSS Balanced. Those results apply to the review unit and stated conditions; game, settings and laptop configuration affect performance. The same review also reported gameplay stutter, so its averages do not tell the whole experience.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDisplay for editing and creator work
The 240Hz, 2560×1600 screen gives games a high refresh rate and provides a 16:10 workspace that can suit general editing and productivity. However, Tom’s Guide reported 73.2% DCI-P3 coverage and said the panel’s color coverage was poor for film and television work. That limitation matters if a project depends on broad color-gamut coverage; the word “creator” alone does not make the display suitable for every color-critical workflow.

Portability, noise and thermals
Notebookcheck’s September 19, 2024 review tested an ML-16 MK2 with a Core Ultra 7 155H, RTX 4070 and 240Hz 1600p IPS display. It described the laptop as thin and powerful for its price, but warned that the fans could be loud and discussed temperature and configuration omissions. That makes noise and sustained performance worth checking alongside the GPU name when comparing portable gaming laptops.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Is the MAINGEAR ML-16 still available?
Current availability is not established by the announcement or the available product information. MAINGEAR’s collection page still describes an ML-16, but that alone does not confirm active stock, a particular configuration or a current price. Before purchasing, confirm the exact model and GPU, memory, SSD capacity, warranty, seller and return terms. Do not assume a listing or historical price reflects current inventory.
How to compare it with other 16-inch gaming laptops
Notebookcheck identified the Razer Blade 16, Alienware x16 R2, Asus ROG Zephyrus G16 and Lenovo Legion Pro 7 16 as portable 16-inch alternatives. Compare the complete configurations rather than matching laptops by GPU label alone: mobile GPU power limits, cooling and chassis design can affect sustained performance.
Quick Recap
- Check independent gaming results and sustained-load behavior for the specific configuration.
- Compare measured fan noise and temperatures if you work or play in quiet spaces.
- Match the screen’s gamut and refresh rate to your work; high refresh does not establish color suitability.
- Check weight, thickness, ports and upgradeability against how you will use the laptop.
- Compare current prices, warranty terms and seller support, not historical review prices.
