The MAINGEAR MG-1 Silver launched in January 2024 with an RTX 4060, an Intel Core i5-14400F, 16GB of DDR4 memory and a 1TB SSD for a listed MSRP of $1,199. That price and configuration are historical: current MAINGEAR pages surfaced for this article do not establish whether the 2024 Silver is still available or what it costs now. Reviews generally position RTX 4060 versions for 1080p gaming, but some reviewed units had different processors and less storage than the announced model.
What did the 2024 MG-1 Silver include?
MAINGEAR announced the preconfigured 2024 MG-1 lineup on January 31, 2024. The Silver was its entry-level tier, priced at a $1,199 MSRP. Its announced configuration was:
- Intel Core i5-14400F processor
- NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 graphics card
- 16GB DDR4-3600 memory
- 1TB Gen4 M.2 NVMe SSD
- MSI PRO B660M-A CEC WIFI motherboard
- Cooler Master Hyper 212 Black CPU cooler
- 650W power supply
- Windows 11 Home
The release described six preconfigured tiers—Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond, Legendary and Ultimate—with graphics options across the range from RTX 4060 to RTX 4090. MAINGEAR also offered “Boosted” versions with twice the memory and SSD capacity of their non-Boosted counterpart. These are the announced 2024 options, not confirmation of the current lineup. How much did the MAINGEAR MG-1 Silver cost?
The launch MSRP was $1,199 in MAINGEAR’s January 31, 2024 announcement. Reviews published around that period described different prices: WIRED identified the Silver as a $1,199 RTX 4060 PC, while PCGamesN reviewed a $1,249 configuration and Tom’s Hardware reported $1,149 for the regular Silver alongside $1,249 for its Shroud Edition. Those are period-specific figures for the configurations and review contexts each publication covered, not current quotes.

Do reviews describe the same configuration as the launch model?
No. The announced Silver specification and the review units are not interchangeable. PCGamesN reviewed a $1,249 PC with an i5-13400F and 512GB SSD. Tom’s Hardware’s $1,249 Shroud Edition also used an i5-13400F and 512GB SSD; its review said the regular Silver was $1,149 at the time. These differ from the January announcement’s i5-14400F and 1TB SSD. Confirm the CPU, storage, motherboard and other components on the exact system being sold rather than relying on the Silver name alone.

Is the MG-1 Silver good for 1080p gaming?
The RTX 4060 versions reviewed were positioned as 1080p gaming desktops, and the cited tests show why resolution matters. Tom’s Hardware measured 104 fps in Shadow of the Tomb Raider at 1080p and 30 fps at 4K on its Silver Shroud Edition. In Far Cry 6, that review unit reached 91 fps at 1080p and 38 fps at 4K. These are results for those specific games, settings and review configuration; they are not universal frame-rate promises or direct benchmarks of the announced i5-14400F/1TB model.

That illustrates that even at 1080p, demanding games and settings can produce very different results. Look for benchmarks of the games you play and the precise configuration under consideration. What should buyers check before choosing one?
Storage capacity and expansion
The announced Silver had a 1TB SSD, while the PCGamesN and Tom’s Hardware review units had 512GB. PCGamesN noted a second M.2 connector on its tested motherboard, and Tom’s Hardware discussed SSD expansion. Because the reviews do not establish that every MG-1 Silver has the same board and layout, verify the exact motherboard, available M.2 slots and included drive configuration before planning an upgrade.
Chassis size and configuration options
WIRED praised the MG-1’s customizable magnetic front panel, spacious interior and detailed configurator, but noted that the chassis was large and drive mounts depended on the initial configuration. If desk space, drive additions or appearance matter, check the exact case setup and included mounts rather than assuming all configurations are alike.
