Wizards of the Coast says it will reopen orders for Secret Lair x MSCHF: The Zeta Set on Dec. 9, 2026, after a disruption derailed the initial sale. The announced window will last 24 hours, and Wizards says it will fulfill every order placed during it. Shipping is estimated to begin in the second half of 2027.
When does the Zeta Set sale reopen?
In an Oct. 1, 2026 update, Wizards announced a single 24-hour ordering window for Dec. 9, 2026, through the Secret Lair online store. That is an announced future sale, not a product that is continuously available: the stated ordering period is limited to those 24 hours. Wizards said every order placed during the window would be fulfilled.
Wizards estimated that orders from the new window would start shipping in the second half of 2027. The company said it would share more timing details closer to the sale, so the shipping start is an estimate rather than a confirmed delivery date. Wizards’ Oct. 1, 2026 announcement contains the current stated terms.

Wizards attributed the launch problems to an external service disruption affecting systems that supported the sale. According to Matthew Hodgins, the queue stopped moving, shoppers encountered checkout errors, and confirmation emails arrived late or not at all. Some customers were left unsure for hours whether their orders had gone through.

Hodgins said the queue was paused while backend systems were strained. He estimated that thousands of customers spent roughly an extra hour and a half waiting, and that only a few people obtained remaining stock after the sale resumed. These are Wizards’ reported operational details; the company did not publish an independent audit or exact counts of failed or canceled orders.
Some stock became available again through canceled orders and failed transactions, but Wizards said the recovered amount was far below demand. It also said that immediately opening another queue would likely reproduce the same problems. The company described its decision this way: “A sale isn’t a success just because inventory hits zero.”

- The cards included in this very special Secret Lair drop will be completely new to Magic, depicting the iconic characters of the long-running and critically acclaimed TV series.
What should existing preorder customers do?
As of the Oct. 1 announcement, Wizards said no orders had shipped and most customers had not been charged. Customers who wanted to cancel were instructed to submit a support ticket by Oct. 9, 2026. Customers who wanted to keep their existing preorder did not need to take action. Because those dates and instructions were stated in the Oct. 1 post, check the Secret Lair support channel for any later changes.
Is this the same Secret Lair controversy as Monster Hunter?
No. The Zeta Set announcement concerns a disrupted sale and a new order window. The separate Secret Lair x Monster Hunter Superdrop issue was about the product’s creative direction: Wizards said the card selection and integration of the Monster Hunter world and mechanics fell short of expectations.
On Nov. 26, 2025, Wizards said it had heard fan disappointment, postponed the Monster Hunter Superdrop, and would rework it entirely, with Capcom’s support. It said new details and an updated release date would follow in 2026. That was a postponement and redesign, not a rerun of the Zeta Set sale. Wizards’ Monster Hunter update describes that separate decision.
