Mafia III: Definitive Edition arrived natively on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on October 8, 2026, alongside a PC update. According to the patch notes from publisher 2K, reproduced in Gematsu’s report that day, the new console versions support 60 FPS gameplay, and the update includes fixes for campaign and DLC progression blockers, achievement and trophy tracking, stability, and visuals.
An official Mafia III patch-notes page from 2K was not available when this article was written, so the detailed fix lists below come from Gematsu’s reproduction of 2K’s notes. Treat them as the reported changes, not as independently tested results.

What arrived on October 8, 2026
The update covers three platforms, but the console and PC versions differ in what they include and how players get them.

Gematsu credits the announcement to 2K, with developer Hangar 13. The same report describes the console versions as the native releases; it does not describe a separate purchase for PC players.

Is Mafia III 60 FPS on PS5 and Xbox Series X?
Yes, for gameplay. The 2K patch notes state that Mafia III: Definitive Edition on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S supports 60 frames per second gameplay. That is a published specification, not a figure from an independent performance test.
Cinematics are split. Many real-time cinematics run at 60 FPS, while pre-rendered movies remain at 30 FPS. If you are comparing the console versions with the PC version, the reported notes do not state a PC frame-rate target, so there is no direct comparison to draw from them.

Does the update fix mission progression?
Yes. Progression is the first category in both sets of notes, and the fixes differ by platform.
PC fixes
The PC highlights describe smoother mission progression and name three missions: “Get Enzo Conti,” “Kill Tommy Marcano,” and the Epilogue. The detailed PC notes also list:

- Better achievement tracking and changes to NPC and companion behavior.

- Stability, lighting and texture issues, and vegetation and lighting pop-in.
- Window-border and FPS-lock options, multi-monitor behavior, and VSync physics.
- Waypoints, subtitles, cursor focus, crosshairs, localized text, and UI feedback.
PS5 and Xbox Series fixes
The console notes place the most weight on progression blockers across campaign and DLC checkpoints. The other listed areas are:
- Trophy and achievement tracking, plus visual consistency.
- Gameplay instability, post-cutscene behavior, and loading transitions.
- Select AI and NPC behavior, vehicle issues, and weapons and upgrades.
- The Stones Unturned wiretap issue.
- Vegetation streaming, lighting and textures, and cutscene animation.
- Map and objective icons, control prompts, subtitles, and localized text.
These are reported fixes. The notes do not say every listed issue affected every player, and they do not confirm that each fix behaves as described on every system.

Is the upgrade free?
Gematsu’s report describes the PS5 and Xbox Series versions as free upgrades from PS4 and Xbox One. That is the reported position, but the exact eligibility rules are not confirmed in a Mafia III-specific official support page.

- A 2K support article titled “[Mafia: Definitive Edition] Now on PlayStation 5 and XBOX Series X|S,” updated October 8, 2026, covers that other title. Its ownership and transfer wording should not be applied to Mafia III.

- Look for a Mafia III-specific notice from 2K on its support site. Do not rely on a notice for another Mafia title.

What the PS5 edition includes
The official PlayStation Store listing for Mafia III: Definitive Edition for PS5 is tagged PS4/PS5 and includes:
- The base game.
- Faster, Baby!
- Stones Unturned.
- Sign of the Times.
- Family Kick-Back Pack.
- Judge, Jury & Executioner Weapons Pack.
The listing describes four story DLCs in total, but the three titled above are the ones it names. Check the store page for the full set of DLC before you buy.
Do you need PlayStation Plus, Game Pass Core, or an online connection?
2K’s general Mafia III FAQ, updated July 8, 2026, says players do not need PlayStation Plus or Xbox Game Pass Core, or an online connection, to play the game straight out of the box. It does encourage connecting to download updates such as this one.
That is the FAQ’s general answer. It does not guarantee that every online feature or storefront requirement works the same way in the new native console versions.
